29th
August 1998 from Goodison Park by J!nder
Everton 0 Tottenham
Hotspurs 1
Ferdinand 5
Another 90 minutes of demostration and 270 minutes of evidence for a need and cause for a striker. We are just too typical and it seems we are just lacking of ideas to attack when Ferguson is playing. Nothing against the big man....he was fantastic today infact closest in the team who could get us a goal. But isn't it too evident that we need to change our attacking tactics. WS instead of spending money on a goalkeeper, why not be prudent and see where the priorities should be set. We need a striker a goal poacher someone who knows where the net is and that too fast. Spencer tried....failed.. Cadamarteri tried failed.....now we have Madar back....i know he can try too.....but he is just not our answer to the problem.
This game gave a chance to look at out new players. Cleland i think was okay in the first half....faded away in the second and made many mistakes. Collins<er Carolina> it was obvious Collins is a real class he took on players a number of time in the first and look one of the most promising player in the first half...but in the second he faded away i think with a good forward line the team can then prosper from his service. Daccourt did well throughout and i can only see him get better. Unsworth...more composed and passing seem sto improve alot, did had a number of shackles with Ginola and won. A good return from Rhino today.
Match Incidents05 min- *GOAL*! Spurs, off a Ginola
corner, Ferdinand came unchallenge to head in,
maybe the marking
was poor but i believe Myhre could havedone better and
could have saved it
06 min- Dacourt had effort which sailed wide and high on the right.
16 min- Dacourt effort blocked,
reaches to Cadamarteri, just the keeper to beat he
hits it directly to
him.
28 min- Carr receives a throughball
and had Myhre to beat, Myhre comes out and
blocks the shot for a
corner.
33 min- Freekick to Everton, Collins
and Dacourt just behind the ball,Dacourt take
keeper saw it late but
manages to punch the ball out for a corner
36 min- Ferguson had a header directly at the keeper.
40 min- Ball takes a short just outside the box, it goes low and wide.
Half timeSecond Half
47 min- Myhre catches the ball,
throws out fast to Cadamarteri who runs and
then releases the ball
to Barmby in the Spurs penalty area but then misses it.
51 min- Barmby wins the ball
fantastically runs and then shoots but it was a
weak effort and was
saved.
52 min- Ginola tried to make history
with a run to box something like the way
he did last season
against us at home. But Unsworth was there with a
great tackle.
54 min- Another dodgy Ginola run, he
runs to the box, Unsworth was trailing
behind him, there might
be sligh contact, Ginola trips and ref says NO!!,
Furious Ginola was then
shouting his frust all over...as if he has just
missed on grand lottery
price.
59 min- Ginola takes a freekick, easily saved by Myhre.
63 min- Ferguson challenges Campbell
for a ball which was cleared by Barmby,
Campbell heads to Baardsen,
Ferguson chases and win and puts it in the
net. Linesman says
offside....f*** off.........i mean he must be a Spurs
fan no doubt.
65 min- Cadamarteri runs with the ball and squares it to Dacourt but it goes wide.
67 min- Ginola makes another of his those runs but it was tackled well by Materazzi.
70 min- Ball runs to the flank, puts
in a great cross, Ferguson heads, good save
by Baardsen.Worth
watching that again.
72 min- Good run by Cadamarteri this
time,another cross, Ferguson again...
saved again!.
73 min- Short's cross, Ferguson passes to Collins but the shot is blocked.
74 min- Hutchison and Spencer come in for Barmby and Cleland respectively.
80 min- Dacourt runs chips in a ball
to Spencer he chips the keeper, seems
to be going wide but
Campbell made it save and clears it out.
81 min- Penalty appeal by us turned down.
81 min- Short's long ball cross,
Baardsen comes out for the challenge misses
it, Ferguson heads just
too high.
90 min- Final whistle.....jeers and boos....and 3 points lost...
Individual Performance
Myhre 6 - Just a
couple of easy saves and handling of crosses but
could have done better with the goal we conceded.
Cleland 6 - Was
okay in the first hald but never really convinced me
in the second. I think by this performance O'Kane could
have done better
Short 6 - Pretty quiet performance from him today.
Materazzi 7 - I am
happy of what i saw today, tackles well, and uses his
left foot well and passing is good too.
Unsworth 7 - Good performance and happy to see him back in the squad.
*Ball 8* -
Simply brilliant, tackles were all great. Matter of time before he
wears the
'3 lions on his shirt'. M.O.M.
Barmby 7 - Was
everywhere and though in some reports they say he
was bad....i think i say they are wrong. He did all he could but
it wasn't our day
Collins 6 - His
skills were there to everyone's presence and i can't remember
a player quite like him in Goodison for sometime. Maybe lacking
match fitness cos he faded badly in the seond half but in time to
come i think he will be a real asset. Give us a good striker and and
you will see the real Collins then.
Dacourt 7 - Good
performance, knows how to bail himself out of trouble when
gets into one, tackles well and passes well. Free kicks are good,
shooting...better that Farrelly maybe he will get a goal earlier than
Farrelly like how he got last season.
Cadamarteri 7
- I think he could not play in the first half, cos Campbell wasFerguson 8 - Won
almost all headers but winning it is one thing but his
determination to win it is another. Had like 4 good chances with
his headers but keeper dealt well, scored a perfectly legal goal
but was denied bythe linesman.
Hutchison 6
- Did nothing much really.Spencer 6
- Look lively when he came on, had one chance created by the intelligenceOverall team performance - 6
Overall M.O.M - Sol Campbell
Refree - 6
