Iola-Scandinavia snapped a two-game losing streak, outscoring Tigerton 42-19 in the second half to win, 59-48.
In the first half, Tigerton forced 17 turnovers while committing only 8. They shot 44% from the field while holding the Thunderbirds to only 30%. A 19-3 run to start the second quarter gave Tigerton a 29-12 advantage with 2:30 remaining in the half. Iola scored the last five points of the half, cutting the lead to 29-17 at halftime.
The second half was a completely different story. The Tigers could not handle Iola's full court press. Tigerton committed 26 turnovers to Iola's 15. Tigerton shot 23% compared to 59% by Iola. The increase in shot percentage was a combination of fast-break opportunities and penetration. Iola scored the first 19 points of the second half before Paul Schuh finally got Tigerton on the board for the half. Tigerton trailed only 40-35 after the third, but their defense could no longer stop Iola with the same consistency as they did in the first half. The Thunderbirds outscored Tigerton 19-13 in the fourth for the 59-48 win.
Tigerton was led by Nick Desrochers with 19 points, although only six of them came in the second half. R.J. Rosenthal led all scorers with 21 points, with 18 coming after the half. Tigerton's next game is at Northland Lutheran next Tuesday night.
