The Tigerton Tigers won their first game of the 1998 season Friday night with a 61-52 victory over Wild Rose, avenging the lopsided defeat in Wild Rose last year. Nick Desrochers led all scorers with 32 points and Josh Graham contributed nine in the Tigers' win.
The game started slowly as Wild Rose ran a slow offensive scheme. Tigerton got into foul trouble early with four fouls in the first two minutes. They then went on a 7-0 run to start the game. Tigerton had a lead of as many as nine points in the first half, but a technical foul by Jason Littlefield helped Wild Rose close to within 3 points at the half.
The Tigers dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 15-8. The Tigers scored 3 three-point shots in the period.
Trailing by a double-digit margin, the Wildcats were forced to foul often and play a full-court press througout the fourth quarter. The strategy helped Wild Rose to narrow the gap to as little as seven points, at 54-47, but Tigerton closed the game on an 7-5 run to seal the win.
Tigerton travels to Rosholt, the pre-season conference favorite, for their first road game on Tuesday night.
