Captains Report by Jason Estes
On Saturday April 8, 2000 under ideal weather conditions and a home crowd eager to see our KCRFC players come to life. In true form the KCRFC bonded together playing fifteen-man rugby while dominating all eighty minutes of the game. I believe that the weekends following the Atlanta game that the team was one step off, the forwards would play well one week than the backs would play well the other. Losing to the Bombers last weekend was the turning point in my eyes, the team pulled together to put on a show for the crowd and turning around the season. The victory puts the team in control of its future by hosting the MLR plate playoffs. Congratulations to the KCRFC and a special thanks to the crowd.
Coaches Report by Adrian Horne
When push comes to shove this team showed it could push with the best of them. Blanking the Omaha Goats 43-0. A well-disciplined team marched up and down the pitch at will. This game allows the KCRFC to host the playoffs for the MLR plate championships. Although the team displayed solid team rugby two players stood alone in their efforts. Congratulations to Shawn Gordanier and Mike Haase the KCRFC flankers.
Game Stats by Charlie Minshull-Ford
On a beautiful spring day with the weather a sunny 64 degrees. Our boys in red, white, and blue took the field. KCRFC stuck first with a penalty kick by the South African winger Bryan Versfeld, 3-0. The backs proved that they came to play when the KCRFC winger Terry Nelson broke the line, but Brian missed the kick 8-0. After several phases, and a penalty Captain Jason Estes elected to have Brian kick for points and redemption was made11-0. Shortly after word a crushing run up the gut by flanker Shawn Gordanier proved too much for the Omaha defense, 16-0. Once again the CITY pack proved too much to handle showing off yet another newcomer this time a second row player Steve Weaver found his way for success 23-0. At half the city attacked once again with Marc Dunning kicking the penalty 26-0. The rest of the game followed up with a pair of tri's making three for the day for Terry Nelson. Andy Duyakovich a blast from the past came through in classic form showing that he still has plenty of skill left. The game ended with a final score of KCRFC 43 Goats 0
