Descendants of Benjamin Rawlings

Generation No. 1

1. BENJAMIN1 RAWLINGS was born Bet. 1730 - 1780, and died Bef. 1822 in Hampshire Co., VA.

Notes for BENJAMIN RAWLINGS:

See RFHA Dec 1996 p.49 & 52.

See RFHA Sep 1997 p.34 & 39. Indicates he came from Berkeley Co, had wife Mary, and dau Mary who md Nathan Ball. Doesn't fit with previous info so I am not adding that info to the family (could be wrong).

If his son Elijah is the one mentioned in the RFHA Jun 1988, p.5 (see notes on Elijah), then Benjamin may not have come to VA until after 1778 (since that Elijah md in MD in 1778 and then, perhaps, moved to VA).

Children of BENJAMIN RAWLINGS are:

i. ELIJAH2 RAWLINGS, b. Bet. 1750 - 1820; m. ELIZABETH MACGILL, August 06, 1778, Prince George Co, MD.

Notes for ELIJAH RAWLINGS:

I don't know that the Elijah info below is the same Elijah, but I suspect so.

RFHA Jun 1988, p.7. Need information of Elijah Rawlings, received a land grant of 180 aaacres on the Buckhannon River in Randolph Co., VA in 1802. See knowledgeof parents and siblings, and from where he came. Betty Rollins Wilhelmy, 2942 North Star Rd., Columbus, OH 43221.

Need info on Elijah Rawlings who enrolled in Capt. Magruder's Company, July 4, 1776. Married Elizabeth MacGill Aug. 6, 1778, in Prince George's Co, MD. I believe he moved to VA. An Elijah Rollings applied for land in 1802, received in 1805, Randolph Co., VA.

RFHA Mar 1989 p.5. An Elijah was raised in the Buckhannon settlement (Jackson Co, W. VA.), and came to Mill Creek about 1811. He was the first white settler on Tug Fork, settllig there about 1816. He and George Casto were local Methodist preachers, "preached a great deal", and formed the first Methodist classes in the upper Mill Creek Valley. He died about 1854, at the age of ninety years.

His wife's name was Lucretia Casto, a sister of Johathan, Levi, etc. Benjamin Rollins, Elijah's son, kept a hotel at the Anderson stand in Ripley, 25 years ago (don't know when this was written). Captain Columbus Rollins was a son of Johathan Rollins. He went to Kentucky after the war. (which one?)

A brother of Elijah Rollins, by the name of Zachariah, came from Lewis County, and settled at the first place belowStaat's Mill. He married Elizabeth Howell.
