I suspect this Thomas died in Spotsylvania Co in 1749.

Note that there was a Thomas Rawlings in Brunswick Co before 1735. Brunswick Co Court 3 July 1735. Thoams Wison came into Court & presented & acknowledged deeds of lease & release to ....Thomas Rawlins....

There are listed two Thomas's md to Elizabeth's in Richmond Co VA. One is the 1688 Thomas's second marriage listed at "about 1721" and the other is registered as Mar 3 1731. Either marriage could have had child William b 9 Mar 1736, but I would bet on the latter. I am moving Winifred (b1731) and William (b 1736) from the 1688 Thomas to his son the 1714 Thomas.

Likely had a sister or cousin Judith who md Thomas Lacy in Richmond Nov 9, 1716. See Hanover Co, VA marriage records or RFHA Sep 1988, p. 3.

William came to KY in the late 1700'. settled in Scott Co, then Hemming Co (I assume this is Fleming Co). In Richmond records is a William, christeed 9 Mar, 1736, parents Thomas and Elizabeth Rawlings. William named first son Thomas and first daughter Elizabeth. Other children: Aaron, m. Sophia Fouch in 1811 in Fleming Co.; Mary m. Samuel Day in 1808 in Fleming Co.; maybe more. RFHA Jun 1988, p.2 from the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, Vol.52, #1, p.18, Fleming Co., KY. Gives abstract of Wm Sr's will dated Feb 22, 1814. Names wife Barbara, sons Presley, Thomas, Aaron and William Jr., and daughter Mary Day. Also grandson Samuel Dan, and granddaughter Barbara, dtr. of William Jr.

William Knight of Urbana Ohio, wrote in 1941 that Wm Rawlings Jr. came to KY from Loudoun Co., VA. He learned this from his grandfather James R. Rawlings, who was the son of William Jr.

RFHA Jun 1998, p.17 gives cemetary information on Wm, Barbara, Presley, and a few others. One is interesting: Sarah A. Rawlings, d. Mar 31, 1840, age 62 yrs, 4 months. Thus she was born Nov 1777. Should be a wife of one of Wm's children, but I don't find one that fits. Several graves are of children of J.A. and S. Rawlings, but she is too old to be S. Rawlings. I also can't find any possibilities for J.A and S.

Note this: (must be screwed up) RFHA Mar 1995 p.8. "I am still trying to nail down the parents of William Rawlings who came to Fleming Co, KY about 1795, and died in 1814. He may have been the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Rawlings of Richmond Co., VA. They had a son named William Rawlings married to a Mary M. Rawlings in Halifax Co., VA, on July 15, 177. Whether this was the same William or not I have no way of knowing. Any help would be appreciated. Harry Suffron, 4202 22nd St., Greeley, Co 8034.

RFHA Mar 1996 has also a dau Barbara (1805-1862) md Joe Walton, but above has Barbara a dau of Wm Jr.

See RFHA Sep 1996 p.34 for even more confusion - says Presley was the brother of William. This is Wm Jr. see next. (Step brother. Wm, Elizabeth, and Thomas are children of Wm's first wife.

RFHA Sep 1997, p.34. Wm's will dated Feb 22, 1814. Names his wife Barbara, sons Presley, Thomas, Aaron, and William Jr., and daughter Mary Day. Also grandson Samuel Day (Mary's son) and granddaughter Barbara, (Wm Jr's Dtr.). The will is located in the Fleming Co., Circuit Court Clerk's Office, Fleming Co., KY.

Am still seeking the parents of MARY RAWLINGS who md Absolom Hunt July 11, 113, in Fleming Co., KY. She was born Apr 24, 1792, where? She offered 2 affidavits as to the fact she was over 21, so perhaps she was an orphan. Henry Ritchey was a bondsman for the marriage. Then a Nancy Hendrick testified that Mary was 21 on April 24, 1813. The IGI is incorrect when they name Hannah Gravis as Absolom Hunt's wife, md. Sept. 24, 1813. Family records show Absolom and Mary had 5 children; Elihu, Jonathan, James, Emily and Lemuel. Mary appears to have died in 1833. I've been looking for many years and would appreciate anyone's help.

Also RFHA Jun 1998, p. 18. "Another (Fleming Co, KY) Rawlings death was of Mary Hunt, d Mar 6, 1830, age 39 yrs, 10 months. Mary was a Rawlings before she md Absolom Hunt in Fleming Co., KY. No more is known as to who were her parents of the Rawlings living there." Paul Gerrish is a descendant of Absolom and Mary.

So which is it, Charles Samuel Day or Absolom Hunt? Our Mary wasn't an orphan in 1813. (Her father didn't die until 1815, but perhaps he was ill?

Note the Henry Ritchey - wonder if there is a connection to the Greene and Rhea Co TN Rawlings?
