The New Revolution It has begun. You might currently mix your wheels using different hardnesses, but now you can mix the height as well. This is the Hi-Lo revolution
What is Hi-Lo? Most skaters know that a smaller wheel gives better acceleration and more stability, while larger wheels have a higher top end speed. Well Hi-Lo is the combination of big and small wheels (yes, on the same skate). On a standard Hi-Lo frame, a combination of 72mm/80mm or 68mm/76mm are the current options, although there are some variations coming soon
Now I can here you ask, what will this do for you? With the smaller wheels under your foot, acceleration will be faster, while having larger wheels in the back top keep the momentum going. And for those who were wondering, a 72mm/80mm combo is faster than a 68mm/76mm (68/76 accellerates faster).
Products Available If you looking to buy new skates, check out some with a Hi-Lo frame. Brands already available include Mission, Tour, Labeda, Gear, and coming soon to a store near you will be Sure Grip, Bauer, and Kuzak . These are just the ones that I have seen, and I'm sure just about every hockey company will have a Hi-Lo style frame released this year.
