Latest news is that Katja is completely fit now but the German coaches are not so sure if she still has the motivation to start up again next year - she has won Olympic and World Cup medals and she has been through the pain of injury. I believe that if Hilde Gerg and Martina Ertl had done well at Vail and taken over her mantel then she might have gone quietly, but after the Germans disappointment at Vail and especially the success of the Austrians she just might feel hungry again.
Lets hope so!

We wish her all the best.
September 1998
Katja has had a small knee operation to remove a scar on her
knee and is resting - latest reports say she may be late for the start of the season....initially she was thinking of retiring.
This was hidden away on an archive of a Berlin newspaper there was no hoohaa about it so hopefully it isn't that serious and Katja will be fit to
defend her title - more details to follow.
