PINKY WHITNEY

"Pinky" Whitney was the first great  3rd baseman for the Phillies, beginning a tradition that continued with Willie "Puddin' Head" Jones, Mike Schmidt, and Scott Rolen. Whitney did two tours of duty with the club, from 1928-1933 and from 1936-39. During that stretch, he hit over .300 four times and played over 1,000 games at 3rd base. He still ranks 10th on the Phillies' career lists of batting average and RBI's. Whitney once had 38 RBI's in one month.
