This is the Tampa Bay Football History Network
(December 22, 2002)

After almost nine years of using the name “DaBucs - The History of Tampa Bay Football,” we have a new name. This web site is now known as the “Tampa Bay Football History Network.” This site does have a page called “A Rather Rambling History of the Tampa Bay Football History Network,” so this article will not cover what is already in that piece. But, why the name change? Why was DaBucs chosen almost a decade ago? Read on.

Since this web site is one of the few to cover all aspects of football history in the Tampa Bay area, not just the Buccaneers, the name Tampa Bay Football History Network is more accurate description of the content. DaBucs might lead one to believe that this site only covers the NFL team, but that obviously is not the case.

Actually, it was 1993 when the name “DaBucs” decided upon. This probably should not be admitted, but the original concept was to do a humorous portrayal of the Tampa Bay NFL team. After all, back then they were mired in losing and had a history of such. However, as the project preceded, that idea was dropped in favor of doing a comprehensive history of football in Tampa Bay. Back in 1993, few people had heard of the world wide web, or knew what the Internet was. It was never imagined how la rge this effort would become, or just how many hours would be consumed by the project. DaBucs has grown to be, as we so immodestly put it, “the most compressive source on the history of Tampa Bay football guaranteed.” Still, the original name remai ned.

So, now this site is known as the Tampa Bay Football History Network. Other names were considered and maybe in another decade it will time to change the name again. Considerable time has gone into updating all the pages to reflect the name change, but surely a reference or two remains to DaBucs. After almost ten years, maybe that is not a bad thing.
