1999

I went back and applied at Dorney again, this time for Rides. When I went in for my interview, the lady told me that I had lied on my application or something. She said that I had put that I hadn't worked there before when I had. I actually never did work there...I had an interview the year before but never showed up after that because I missed orientation...but they still considered that I had. Oh well. Anyways, when I finally did get hired I went to orientation. It was a Saturday in the Red Garter Saloon where we were told everything about the rules & crap. Oh so much fun.

After that, I had a training night where I learned my rides. I went into the Human Resources building to find out that the group I was in was already in the park...so I went out and joined them. First, we were trained on the Motor Scooters! They aren't in the park anymore but were located in the little lake at the bottom of the park between The Whip & Thunderhawk. They were little boats that you rode in and kids could "steer" with the wheel even though the boats were actually on a track. Well, it didn't seem like a hard ride. All we had to do was pull these levers to brake the boats in particular spots for people to get in. Pretty simple.

Next was The Whip. This was an old ride where people sit in a seat and roll slowly around the rectangular building before being "whipped" quickly around the ends. All we had to do for this was hold a button in. Piece of cake.

Last was the Zephyr. It is the train that runs around the bottom of the park. This was the most difficult but not too hard. Just had to ring a bell, say a speech, and keep it at a certain speed. Mindy, who was training us, said that I did a good job driving the train on my first try. Yes! I rule!

A few weeks later, I was supposed to go back for a Simulation Day where we would ride the rides & run our own in order for everyone to get experience with their rides. But I didn't go to that. I decided I didn't want to work at the park for a number of reasons.
