- Britney vs. Christina Preview -

These two sweet pop princesses caught everyone's eye when they became big stars in 1999. Then one day they decided to practically turn themselves into strippers. They have been on and off as friends and rivals since childhood. This new section that I'm making will discuss many of their similarities and differences and some of their shocking and outrageous behavior. And yes, I know VH1 just had a special on the same thing but I had the idea for this a long time ago. Anyways, here is a small sample of some of the things I might talk about...

The Kiss at the VMAs - In August of 2003, the MTV VMAs started off with a little number featuring Britney, Christina, and Madonna. In the middle of it all, Madonna decided to pucker up and smooch both Brit and Xtina, slippin' a lil tongue as well. It was the only thing people remembered from the show and the only thing you heard about for weeks after. People thought it was great and hot. I totally LOVE women...but in my opinion, this whole kiss thing was trashy. Madonna has always been trashy and Brit/Christina are falling into becoming that way as well so it all makes sense now, doesn't it? The only problem was that Britney & Madonna got all of the press. Christina was hardly ever mentioned. Jealousy always leads to hatred and thus, the gloves came off. Christina later said Britney was in need of a gimmick to promote her album and that's why she did the kiss. Ummm...didn't Christina lock lips as well?? Or was that all an artistic thing for her and not some big cry for publicity? She also said of both Britney and Madonna, "These people aren't artists, they're just performers - fake and superficial." Then she would later say that Britney "seems to me like a lost little girl, someone who desperately needs guidance." OK Christina...you were just as much into the kiss as Brit but there is no need to go bash-crazy just because you weren't acknowledged. In all seriousness, the whole thing was done as a big publicity stunt, plain and simple. All 3 were looking for some cheap media coverage. Christina would later say she wanted to kiss Britney at the VMAs but Brit didn't want to. Our "Genie in a Bottle" is just coming off as a jealous, angry brat.

Top Role Model? - Not too long ago, Christina was named top role model for teen girls in a poll done by a UK magazine, Sugar. She was labeled as "strong minded and independent". It also said of Christina that "she isn't afraid to be who she is". OK, what?!? Look, Christina is a beautiful girl, don't get me wrong. She has just gone down a few notches with all of the recent changes she has made to her looks IMO. And she has a great singing voice. But a top role model for teen girls? Are these the teen girls that are on crack and have unprotected sex with a different guy every day of the week? Are these the teen girls that have 2 kids by the time they hit 18? OK, I don't know for a fact that Christina spreads her legs for a bunch of guys so I can't say she is a slut. But I can say she has turned into a trashy star. And that isn't something I think of as a role model type. People say her image shouldn't matter because its making a statement and she's honest. She gives power to women and is a strong female and all of that crap. Bull. She's not being herself. She has gone from one extreme to the other because she was sick of being labeled as a teenie bopper type. At least now, with the whole badass theme, she can say she is being herself and she doesn't care what people think and seem somewhat believable. Her big thing about "Stripped" was her saying she has been stripped of all of the superficial and manufactured crap and is down to being real and who she really is. Actually, she was depressed about her boyfriend breaking up with her so she did this big overhaul of her look if you want the truth. But hey, I'm not judging her for the black hair or the various piercings or even the fact that she has suddenly begun to embrace her latina roots. Not at all. I don't think she looks as good as she did a couple of years ago but it's not so much the look that makes her trashy. It's the attitude. It's humping guys in her music videos and letting her ass hang out...ok, I'm not so much complaining about that one! :o) But you get the point...this is what the future of our society is idolizing...very sad. Her argument is that men can sleep around and it's ok but women do it and they are called a whore. Ummm...no. Maybe some people are like that but those people are hypocritical morons who don't matter. Male or female, a whore is a whore...don't use the sexist card Christina. Just drop the attitude and the childish bashing of people like Britney, Pink, and Kelly Osbourne. You have the voice and the looks (although somewhat tarnished as of late)....use them wisely and act classy and you'll be a bigger and more-liked star and person.

Britney Gets Married & Has It Annulled - So Christina was named an idol...how can you blow that out of the water? Simple. Get married. Brit decided it would be fun to get married in Las Vegas on January 3rd to her hometown, childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander. Almost immediately after, they decided they wanted to get an annullment. And 55 hours later, on paper, the marriage never existed. It's pretty obvious what is going on. The whole "kiss" thing has died down and Britney isn't on the news anymore so here's yet another ridiculous publicity stunt to thrust her back into the spotlight. She wore a baseball cap and torn jeans to her wedding and was escorted by a limo driver...how romantic is that? Or maybe it was the guy who needed some attention. Maybe this was an elaborate plan to get him some exposure. He was a great guy. He was only arrested 3 times for bar fights and he broke up with his girlfriend (who he allegedly cheated on many times) of 5 years a month before jumping into a bogus marriage. But hey, it's a step up from Fred Durst. The amusing thing is that Brit's defense is that this was just "a joke that went 2 far". Ohhhhh...a joke...well that makes it better then. Just goes to show how serious marriage is taken these days. "Til death do us part...or maybe after my hangover is gone tomorrow". They say she wasn't drunk but I highly doubt that, considering she is a hard partier and was in Las Vegas of all places. Her reason for the annullment was she "lacked understanding of her actions". Sure she did. That's why they were told they needed a license and then drove to another place to get it and then all the way back. And yet she didn't know what she was doing. Brit is sure looking less and less intelligent with each thing she does. All I can say is I hope that guy got a traditional honeymoon and nailed her...I would have expected that from her at the very least.
