I WANT TO EXERCISE BUT DON’T KNOW HOW TO BEGIN!!
First, drop the idea that if you don't go run a 26 mile marathon, you won't accomplish anything.
If this is what goes through your mind, then I am here to help you get started.

Before starting this or any exercise program, you should visit your doctor.

If you are not accustomed to doing exercises, then whatever you add to that will be beneficial to you.
Your next step is to get your body used to extra movement, then worry about how much, and how intense
the exercise should be.
The most important thing you need to be aware of the first time you venture out to do the new activity
you have chosen, is heart rate. If you do not normally elevate your heart rate this is the time to be
careful, not to exceed around 120 heart beats per minutes. You need to make the heart muscle strong and
then start working on a higher heart rate.

There are many fine books to help lead the way to a healthy body. The best way to keep track of your
progress is to use a heart rate monitor, these can be purchased at a sports equipment shop, like
a bicycle shop. If you choose to check it the standard way, find your pulse (wrist or neck), then start
at zero and count the beats for 6 seconds and add a zero to the end and you have your heart rate. If you get
12 beats in 6 seconds, your heart rate is 120 bpm ( beats per minute.)

So now it's time to get up off the couch and take a walk.

First, take your heart rate and record it in a journal, then take a walk for about a block without getting
winded. Take your heart rate again. If you HR is not above 120 bpm and you still feel good,I would say
you could go for another block. The important thing to remember is to "HAVE FUN".
Don't do so much that you will be sore the next day, and don't go until you are exhausted. Only do the
amount that will make you want to go back and do some more the next day and the next. You will eventually
be able to add enough to your program to become more and more fit. Add small amounts of exercise
at a time, if you make yourself sore, you will only say to yourself, I'll never do that again. Make sure
you record everything in your journal, so you know what works and what doesn't.

If you are planning on getting a piece of exercise equipment, please don't think of relying in it for all
of your exercise needs, that is the #1 reason for failure to continue to exercise. The reason for burnout
is, not varying your workouts and doing some cross-training, you will only give up out of boredom.
Cross-training, involves all possible types of exercises you can find and then finding a way to enjoy them.
My exercise routine consists of In-line Skating, running, biking, weight lifting, and slideboarding.
I alternate the different types of exercising, and may only do each one, once a week, but I keep it fun
and I feel energetic. I can do a hard workout, but on those days when I feel tired, I will only do a light workout.
Well, I hope this gives you a point at which to get started, on the road to a more fit body with lots of energy.
Remember, if you give yourself enough time and allow yourself to progess at a moderate pace, you will
continue and not give up. I will be happy to answer questions and point you in the right direction.
