My First Year:
Men In Sports. Actually, having given this subject some thought, I
should have titled it: Men "and" Sports. I have recently discovered
that men generally fit into two categories: "Good Sports" and "Bad
Sports". Most of my friends and acquaintances fit the definition of
"Good Sports".
By "MY" definition...
"Good Sports": Have the ability to lose with the same attitude as when
they win. They are the individuals who realize that you can't always win
but, knowing they have done their best at something, are willing to give
credit the their competitor for a job well done.
"Bad Sports": Are unable to lose at anything and remain civil. They
must win at all cost. I have seen more than one friendship destroyed by
one side or the other not being able to gracefully accept loss to a
"friend". I believe, the best examples of both of these fit into the
subject of "Fantasy Sports". Having participated in some of these, I
think it is safe to say, I speak from experience in dealing with both
types. As a rule, most I have played with have always tried to deal
fairly and have been considerate of a beginner. However... there have
been a few, who seem to be so consumed by the pursuit of victory, that
they had no concept of a "Fair Trade".
Now then; Please don't misunderstand. I have also dealt with a great
many that were more than willing to trade fairly and give me very
helpful advice. To those, and they know who they are, I will be always
grateful and want to thank them for making playing Fantasy Sports a lot
of fun. I intend to continue playing and, more importantly, playing as
fairly as I know how.
MY Second year:
Yep I have become fully addicted (by FFL standards). I Started out by
purchasing 6 teams. Then, when the opportunity to acquire "dead teams"
arose, I couldn't resist...I bought 5 more. Those "dead teams" were so
far gone that there wasn't any realistic hope but, overall, the points
they scored was higher,on average, than my original teams
Well, one thing I learned this year is that people equate your
knowledge of football, the players, the match-ups and a variety of other
things, by the percentage ranking of your team(s), themselves.
Unfortunately, if you look at the percentages, most are low because the
overall league index ranking is very low. I don't consider myself a
genius, but I would consider myself fairly competent to determine the
difference between an average, good or outstanding player.
Just as a side note... The all Ladies League (which consists of 10 very
intelligent ladies) I was in, I finished second this year and am quite
proud of myself. However, just for the record, that teams ranking is 9%.
