This is hockey, pure and simple. All the basic rules are
the same (as well as the tendency towards roughing it
up) and let's face it, you can't change the "ICE". The only
difference is how you get around on it. In Sweden and Canada,
countries that have been playing hockey this way
for years, they call them "sledges". Americans, however, seem
to always want to change things to make them their own,
so here we call them "sleds". I wonder if anyone thought
of the fact that we already have sleds, and they
go under kids, down steep hills, on Snow Days. "Oh, well...."

A statment from a member of the U.S. sled Hockey Team, in Nagano:
"I think there was some pressure on us to come out with a
victory, and obviously we didn't," Joe Howard said. "We played
our hearts out, though. We have nothing to hang our heads about.
As a team we will gather ourselves and get over this. Personally,
I thought we'd get farther in this tournament so I'm
disappointed. There isn't a weak team in this tournament and
we're looking forward to Salt Lake City."

As usual I have been reading my e-mail and continue to receive updates on the outcome and results of the Paralympic games. I believe I can understand the possible disappointment members of the Sled Hockey Team, may have felt. I do however, also believe they as well as all members of the US Paralympic teams should be extremely proud of being representatives of the United States. Knowing that the next winter Paralympic games are going to be held in the United States will be a tremendous boost for everyone. I would personally like to congratulate everyone on the Sled Hockey, as I know they played their best.
