22/11/1999 Ratings
It’s definitely a case of Super-Juve: top of the league, having outclassed Milan, the Bianconeri’s stars were all shining bright. The player ratings in all this morning’s sports papers rave about Ancelotti’s team, who put in a performance with a capital P. the highest marks were for Alessandro Del Piero, who played as if a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders last night... Tuttosport. JUVENTUS: Van der Sar 6.5, Ferrara 7, Montero 7, Iuliano 6.5, Zambrotta 6.5 (Mirkovic n/a), Conte 7.5, Tacchinardi 7.5, Birindelli 6.5 (Pessotto 6), Zidane 7.5, Inzaghi 7.5 (Kovacevic n/a), Del Piero 8.5. Gazzetta dello Sport. JUVENTUS: Van der Sar 6, Ferrara 7, Montero 6.5, Iuliano 6.5, Zambrotta 6.5 (Mirkovic n/a), Conte 7, Tacchinardi 6.5, Birindelli 6 (Pessotto 6), Zidane 6.5, Inzaghi 7 (Kovacevic 6), Del Piero 7.5. Corriere dello Sport. JUVENTUS: Van der Sar 6, Ferrara 7, Montero 6.5, Iuliano 6, Zambrotta 6.5 (Mirkovic n/a), Conte 7, Tacchinardi 7, Birindelli 6 (Pessotto 6), Zidane 7, Inzaghi 6.5 (Kovacevic 6), Del Piero 6.5. Top Marks. Alessandro Del Piero was back to pre-op form last night: it was exhibition football against Milan, with touches worthy of a true champion, as well as real graft, not to mention two assists on Conte and Inzaghi’s goals. The range between an 8.5 from Tuttosport to the 6.5 from the Corriere dello Sport is unusual, but for once the higher marks cannot be questioned... But it wasn’t only the number 10 that played at his best: Ferrara, Tacchinardi, Inzaghi and Zidane were all given an average mark of 7 and put Juve’s ambitions this season into sharp relief: the Scudetto is no longer such a distant dream...
