It was another tough day at the office for Gary Fowell
Builders Plains Rangers, when they traveled to take on league leaders
Rotorua United White on Saturday.
The experienced home team settled quickly and their good combinations
were apparent when they scored twice early in the game. Rangers settled
down and did better containing their hosts for the rest of the half. In
the second half, the introduction of James Kraus and Jono Whitaker added
some punch and some pressure was applied. Both players came close to scoring
and the Rotorua team was rattled for a while. However, in the end the
hosts came back and were comfortable winners, 7 - 0.
For Rangers, Barrie Hawkes's commitment to the cause earned him player
of the day. Kirk Bain and Chris Johnston also showed plenty of tenacity.
This Saturday Rangers have a crucial home game against Whakatane Visique.
Both teams are on the same points in the league and both have a lot of
young players. Kick off at Awakeri is at 2.30pm.
