1878: Club formed, September 20, as Grimsby Pelham.
1879: Name changed to Grimsby Town.
1889-90: First season at Abbey Park.
1890: Club became limited company on May 20.
1899: First match at Blundell Park (September 2) Grimsby 3, Luton 3.
1900-01: Won Second Division Championship. Promoted to Division One.
1903-04: Relegated to Division Two.
1907-08:Finished in bottom three. Successfully re-elected to League.
1909-10: Finished in bottom two. Not re-elected.
1910-11: Midland League. Won championship.
1911-12: Re-admitted to Division Two.
1919-20: Post war; Return of League football. Finished bottom of Division Two; not re-elected.
1920: Granted admission into newly-formed Third Division (former Southern League).
1921: Transferred to newly formed Northern Section.
1925-26: Won Third Division North Championship. Promoted to Division Two.
1928-29: Runners-up in Division Two - promoted to First Division. Club's Golden Jubilee season.
1931-32: Relegated to Second Division.
1933-34: Won Second Division championship a month before the season ended.
1935-36: Reached the FA Cup semi-final, losing 1-0 to Arsenal.
1938-39: Reached FA Cup semi-finals again, losing 5-0 to Wolves at Old Trafford (still ground record: 76,962).
1940: Club's home games transferred to Scunthorpe. Gates at Grimsby too poor to run club, possibly due to Grimsby folk fighting in the war unlike those Scunthorpe fannys!
1944: Returned to Blundell Park. First match: January 1 v Doncaster.
1946-47: Post WW2. Town in Division One.
1947-48: Finished bottom. Relegated to Division Two.
1949: First all ticket match at Blundell Park: January 29 v Hull City (FA Cup 4) Lost 2-3.
1950-51: Finished bottom of Division Two. Relegated to Division Three North.
1953: First floodlights installed. First used v Gainsborough Trinity (Midland League) March 9
1954-55: Finished second from bottom, gained re-election.
1955-56: Won Northern Section Championship - promotion to Division Two. First team in League history to achieve re-election to promotion in one season.
1958-59: Finished second-from-bottom in Division Two. Relegated to Division Three
1960: Official colours changed from black and white stripes to white shirts, red shorts and red socks.
1961: New Pontoon Stand, provided by Supporters' Club, built in close season.
1961-62: Finished second in Division Three. Promoted to Division Two.
1962: Reverted to black and white stripes.
1963-64: Finished second-from-bottom in Division Two. Relegated to Third Division on goal average (0.045 of a goal).
1965-66: Reached the League Cup quarter-finals, losing to West Ham after a replay.
1967-68: Finished third-from-bottom in Division Three. Relegated to Division Four on goal average again (0.008 of a goal).
1968-69: Finished second-from-bottom in Division Four. Successfully re-elected.
1969: Record suspension by FA Disciplinary Committee (two months) imposed on Graham Rathbone after being sent off for fighting with Scunthorpe's Don Welbourne, September 13.
1969-70: New club goals record for a winger (25) set by Stuart Brace.
1971-72: Finished champions of Division Four. Promoted to Third Division.
1973-74: Scored 67 goals to win £4,000 in Watney Mann competition. Promoted clubs excluded from competition.
1976-77: Finished second-from-bottom in Division Three. Relegated to Division Four.
1978-79: Finished runners up to Champions Reading. Promoted to Division Three.
1979-80: Achieved second successive promotion by ending as Third Division Champions. Also reached League Cup quarter-finals and FA Cup third round.
1981-82: Beat Wimbledon 3-2 at Blundell Park to win the Group Cup final. The new £1-million Findus Stand replaced the Barratt stand.
1983-84: Finished fifth in Division Two - highest League placing since 1948. Beat Everton 1-0 to reach the Milk Cup quarter finals.
1986-87: Finished second-from-bottom in Division Two. Relegated to Division Three. Plus my first game!!(the last one of the season)
1987-88: Finished third-from-bottom in Division Three. Relegated to Division Four.
1988: Alan Buckley takes over as manager in June.
1989-90: Finished runners-up to Champions Exeter. Promoted to Division Three.
1990-91: Finished third in Division Three. Promoted to Division Two.
1992-93: Following League reorganisation, finished ninth in Division One.
1994-95: Alan Buckley leaves for WBA, Brian Laws takes over in November. Town finished creditable tenth.
1995-6: Ivano Bonetti, signs for Town after fans raise £50,000 but leaves after incident with manager Brian Laws left him with broken cheekbone.
1996-7: Town sack two managers, Brian Laws and Kenny Swain and then re-appoint Alan Buckley after relegation to Division Two.
1997-8: Town have their best season to date with appearing at Wembley for the first time in the 120 year history. They win the Auto-Windscreens Shield against Bournemouth and also gain promotion to the First division by beating Northampton Town in the play-off final.
2010: Town are invincible, they win the Premier league, FA Cup, League Cup, European Champions league and the World Club championship, club saviour Rob Mitchell becomes a very wealthy man (well I can dream can't I?!?!)
