The Wings continued their dominance against the Skychiefs at Froniter (8-0) with a 4-3 win in front of 6,612 fans. Again the Skychiefs struck first as the Wings committed two errors to start the inning which proved costly as Syracuse put two unearned runs on the board in the fifth. The Wings came back though with three in the fifth to take the lead for good. Matos came through again with players on base with a 2 RBI hit. The Wings added another in the seventh to take a two run lead. Syracuse put on pressure in the eighth, but they could only put one on the board as Steph came in, shut down Syracuse and earned the save.
The Wings have now won five straight games and have taken a 4 1/2 game lead on second place Pawtucket! Clyburn was the only Wing with more than one hit in the game, but as usual thus far the Wings came through when they had to despite only seven hits to win. Ramirez was sharp for his spot start, allowing four hits, two runs (both unearned) and struck out four in five innings. Steph was great pitching two innings for the save as the Wings have proved to have a very nice save combo in Steph and Shouse. Steph pitched two innings with no hits, no runs and two strikeouts. The Wings play the final game in the series on turn back the clock day at Frontier. Then they will begin the roadtrip and the infield will be covered up with grass for soccer as the Rhinos open.
