The Red Wings defeated Irabu and the Clippers with a late game comeback in front of a season high crowd of over 13,400. Columbus got on the board first in the top of the first, as they put two runs on the board. The second run came off of a Columbus batter reaching base because Wazsgis did not tag the runner off of a strikeout and the man from third came home. The Wings got on Irabu quickily though, as the first two runners reached base and then took advantage of Irabu's slow windup by stealing bases. They scored three runs in the inning.
The Clippers took a 6-4 lead after five and Columbus then replaced Irabu. In five innings he allowed four runs on eight hits, he looks like $3.2 million to me! The Clippers then took a 7-4 lead, but the Wings came back in the eighth. They scored four runs, the game winner came off of a deep fly ball caught and the runner tagging up.
Bennett earned the win with a scoreless effort in relief and Brian Shouse came on for the save. Rose lost for the Clippers with a very shaky relief effort. The PawSox won so the Wings remain 3 1/2 games behind the Sox.
