The weather did indeed cooperate (the same can't be said for Opening Day 2, which was just canned. Too bad, as of 6PM last night they had sold over 7,200 seats!) for opening day. There was not a drop throughout the game, and the weather was not overly uncomfortable with the cold temperatures. Frontier Field as expected, seemed to get rave reviews from everyone, certainly one heck of a ballpark! The only hitch that seems to come with new stadiums (like in Syracuse they could not get the outfield wall door shut which delayed their game) was they had problems with the mound and had to delay the game to work on it. Otherwise no problems, and like I said kudos to everyone involved with it, the 13,227 on hand enjoyed it!
Well now to the game, the Wings opened up promisingly scoring the first 5 runs. BJ Waszgis scored the first run, which was a Clyburn RBI to take the lead. The Wings went on to score four in the 5th and one in the 6th to take a 5-0 lead. Sackinsky was pitching strong and everything looked good, but then the bullpen got involved and between Corbin and Shouse five runs were allowed in 2 2/3 innings and needless to say the lead was blown and the final was an 8-5 loss. Corbin took the loss and the Wings will hope to rebound in the DH sunday versues Scranton (weather cooperating, ofcourse). Still, a great night and one that will be remembered for years to come, hey, Silver's first game was a three run loss (3-0)!
