It seemed like Saturday was the day to clinch. A huge walk up, unbeaten Doug Johns getting the start, a fireworks show after the game scheduled, unfortunately a real unwanted recipe was somehow added: horrific fielding by the Wings. The Wings had three errors during the game and Doug Johns threw three wild piches (though I would argue that those were pitches Waszgis would generally have and those cost the Wings).
Columbus got on the Wings earning a 4-1 lead. The Wings then rallied, Danny Clyburn had a solo homerun to come within two. The Wings did close within one. The Wings seemed to be in trouble in the eighth as there were men at first and second with no outs. Johns was then pulled for Steph who got an out though the two runners advanced on the bunt. Then Shouse came in and blew out the next two batters.
Then in the ninth the over 7,500 in attendance got on their feet to attempt to inspire to Wings to a comeback win. Coulmbus closer Mecir walked the first batter and the second advanced on catcher interference. Then with men on first and second Bullett came up and bunted which failed (I personally question the move, he seemed to try to bunt nearly every at bat and didn't look good doing so and it is not like Bullett can't hit the ball). Then Wawruck struck out and then Forbes loaded up the bases. Matos then flew out to right center ending the game (though there was some hope as there was confusion in the outfield).
Well, it was certainly disheartening with the multitude of men left on base and the sloppy play, it seemed like they could have gotten business done if they got a clutch hit or had a little solid field play, but the post game fireworks were good I guess! Now it comes down to a one game season, winner take all. Yan has been called up so Murano will start (and the way Yan has looked since coming back from Baltimore, that is not necessarily bad news). The game will start at 5:15 tomorrow and will be broadcasted on Empire Sports (though let's get out there, today's crowd was one of the loudest I have heard in a long while), let's hope the Wings have won more win left in them!
