Question: From Glenn Needham at ts30-15.ott.iSTAR.ca, Thu Dec 19 14:14:39 1996
Hi Jyrki: With the injury to Captain Trevor, has anyone stepped forward to assume the leadership of this team? How is Trevor's recovery coming along? When do you think he will be back? My Christmas wish would be for the team to play more consistently. It seems that not everybody is showing up to play every game. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Answer: Jyrki Lumme, Thu Dec 19 14:20:23 1996
Every guy has to step up, but we have guys like Babych and Murzyn leading the way. And Trevor is still around in the dressing room so we still have his support. Hopefull Trevor is ready to come back soon, but it's up to the doctors. I also agree that we have to play more consistent. It's something we address before every game because we have a very good team as long as we play hard every day.

Question: From TODD MASSE at 207.102.220.159, Thu Dec 19 14:15:10 1996
HI JYRKI. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHO YOU LOOK UP TO IN HOCKEY. WHO IS YOUR FAVE DEFENSEMEN TO PLAY WITH AND AGAINST..
Answer: Jyrki Lumme, Thu Dec 19 14:23:57 1996
When I was a kid it was Risto Siltanen. I heard about Bobby Orr, but growing up in Finland we didn't get too many games on TV so I saw him play a couple times. My favourite defenceman to play with is Dana Murzyn because I've played with him for six years. We know each other pretty well.

Jyrki, you are the first Canuck I ever met, so you are kinda my hero. One question: you are a defenceman but I often see you going to the net, why do you scare us and do that??
Answer: Jyrki Lumme, Thu Dec 19 14:27:27 1996
Whenever there's a chance I'm trying to get up and help the forwards and maybe create some chances. But I agree sometimes it may look a little scary.

You have an unique stickhandling style when getting around defenders, is it something you've developed yourself, or did you see others do it?

I don't have the slightest idea how I developed it. I never tried to do anything special or took any lessons, it's just something that comes naturally.

Question: From Steven Forseth at cac3.netshop.net, Thu Dec 19 14:19:31 1996
I was also wondering if there was a problem at the beginning of the season with the coach's different system of play then that of Pat Quinn?
Answer: Jyrki Lumme, Thu Dec 19 14:38:55 1996
Every coach is different and they have their own system or style. But, there's not a huge difference between different systems. You are supposed to do what the coach tells you. Every year there are new players so you have to get used to playing with different guys. As long as everybody sticks to the same plan you'll be fine.

Question: From Ville Korpi at CLIII.hdyn.sci.fi, Thu Dec 19 14:50:08 1996
There hundreds of players in NHL and as many playing styles. Do you defencemen keep accounts or something of the most dangerous attackers and their playing styles? Do you think about this kind of stuff before the game?
Answer: Jyrki Lumme, Thu Dec 19 15:03:45 1996
Before every game you make sure you know who you are playing against. And if there are some dangerous players like Joe Sakic, you make sure you don't give them any extra room. You play every team so many times so you get to know most of the players and just try to remember what they can do and how to defend against that.

Answer: Jyrki Lumme, Thu Dec 19 15:22:26 1996
It was great to play with Mark Wotton because he's a very smart, steady player and he's going to be a really good player. But I've played with Dana for almost six years now so we just know each other well. So sometimes we don't even have to talk to each other on the ice and we still know what the other guy is doing.
