SWEDE DREAM
BY PAUL HINCE

SUPER Swede Jesper Blomqvist announced his arrival at Manchester
United's
Theatre of Dreams in sensational style last night.

The £4.5m newcomer was in dazzling form in his first competitive match
for
the Reds as he inspired them to a comprehensive 4-0 Pontin's League
victory
over Aston Villa.

Blomqvist became an instant hit with the fans as he turned on a display
of
wing wizardry which delighted manager Alex Ferguson. He said: ``Jesper
did
terrifically well. He has got a style all his own. He has got excellent
dribbling skills and a very good footballing brain.

``He is one of a dying breed. An orthodox left-winger who is obviously a
crowd-pleaser judging from the reception he received. He is still a bit
short of match practice so I will give him another reserve team outing
against Everton on Saturday.''

The tricky Swedish international had a hand in the first three goals as
the
Reds threatened to overrun a young Villa side. Pressure from Blomqvist
and
the impressive Jordi Cruyff in the 18th minute forced defender Samuel to
concede an own goal and from then on it was all one-way traffic.

But while Blomqvist's artistry excited the crowd, it was hard-working
Mark
Wilson who put the finishing touches to United's one-sided victory.

The promising youngster netted in the 30th and 49th minutes and was
denied
the hat-trick he deserved three minutes from time when his piledriver
came
back off the bar with the Villa 'keeper beaten. Cruyff, fighting to
establish himself as a first-team regular at Old Trafford, could also
have
played his way into Ferguson's Premiership plans after a display oozing
in
class.

The Dutch star was desperately unlucky not to get his name on the
scoresheet
when his fierce drive was parried out by the Villa 'keeper straight to
the
feet of John Greening who had the simplest of tasks to roll the ball
into
the net for United's fourth goal.

``Jordi and David May both did very well,'' added Ferguson. ``Like
Jesper,
it was important that both of them got a competitive match under their
belts. ``I took Jesper off with 20 minutes left but that was only
because I
didn't want him to do too much in his first match.''
