COUNTY CRUISE TO A COMFORTABLE WIN
Ross County 3; Montrose 1

Ross County were still on a high after their magnificent win over Dundee United in midweek. The legs tired towards the end but they did cruise to a relatively comfortable win and collect three points.
Boss Neale Cooper was delighted with the win. After the match he commented, "It was difficult to come off a game like the Dundee one, but today's win was a big result for us, and in my opinion equals what we did against United."
Steve Ferguson had been a tireless worker and it was no less than he deserved when he opened the scoring with a great header from an Alex Taylor free kick.
County were totally in command and the helpless Craib could only head through his own net when under pressure from a clutch of County players who were striving to get on to the end of another excellent taylor cross.
Substitute Gary Wood who is on the transfer list and has been playing a lot of his football in the reserves, came off the bench in the 66th minute and not long after he put the game beyond Montrose with a fine low drive from 20 yards.
County tired towards the end and Higgins scored a consolation goal for the visitors.

Ross County: Walker; McKay, McBain, Herd, Maxwell, Gilbert, Escalon, Adams, Tarrant (Wood, 66), Taylor (Ross, 57) and Ferguson (Campbell, 87).

COUNTY HIT MONTROSE FOR SIX
Montrose 3; Ross County 6

Gary Wood was in top form as he scored four goals in County's six-goal romp against Montrose.
Commenting after the game, Neale Cooper, Ross County's manager said, "Gary was brilliant today and his display was first class. In the past Gary has been a bit rash, too excitable and too enthusiastic and this has affected his game.
"However, since coming off the transfer list Gary's all-round game has improved and today his finishing, work-rate and movement off the ball were first class."
Montrose opened the scoring in the seventh minute when a corner was only partially cleared as far as Hutton who slammed the ball home from 20 yards.
Four minutes later, County were level when Gary Wood opened his account witha brilliant diving header from a Billy Ferries cross.
His second came in the twenty-first minute when he controlled a pass from Roy McBain and then drove the ball home off one of the uprights.
Two minutes later he completed his hat-trick, putting the finishing touches to a short corner from Billy Ferries which Keny Gilbert nodded on.
County were reduced to ten men when David Matheson was red-carded for a challenge on Taylor outside the box.
In the 41st minute Montrose reduced the leeway when Nicky Walker palmed a corner into the path of Loney and the striker headed the ball home.
Four goals were to come in a free-flowing second half. Montrose forced the early pace against ten-man County but stout defence denied them. Then in the 75th minute Gary Wood completed his four-goal tally and Steve Ferguson added a fifth in the 80th minute.
Andrew scored for Montrose in the 82nd minute, but back came County for Roy McBain to volley home their sixth goal to end a remarkable match.

Ross County: Walker; Matheson, McBain, Maxwell, Haro, Gilbert, Ferries (Tarrant, 53), Ferguson, Wood (Taylor, 85), Escalon and Golabek (Williamson, 71).

Ferries Strike Sets County On Their Way
Ross County 3; Montrose 0

An entertaining contest was served up at Victoria Park with Montrose playing a brand of football that belied their lowly position in the Third Division.
However, Ross County were always in command and apart from a fright or two never looked like conceding any points to their visitors.
Billy Ferries was lively on the right in the first half despite the close attention he received from two and sometimes three Montrose defenders. But in the 32nd minute, Ferries cut inside and struck an unstoppable left-foot shot past the helpless 'keeper.
Neil Tarrant and new signing John McGlashan were striking up a useful partnership and it was the former who scored County's second goal in the 62nd minute. He had the simplest of tasks as Alex Taylor's defence-splitting pass offered the tall striker a free shot on goal and the elegant Tarrant did not need a second invitation to score an excellent goal.
Alex Taylor was in excellent form and he scored a real beauty of a goal in the 86th minute. McGlashan had done some excellent work and Taylor met his cut back and crashed the ball home from all of twenty-five yards passed the static defence.

Ross County: Walker; McKay, McBain, Haro, Maxwell, Gilbert, Ferries (Ross, 70), McGlashan, Tarrant (Wood, 85), Taylor and Golabek. Sub Not Used: Higgins.

ROSS SCORES TWICE IN TARRANT'S FAREWELL
Montrose 2; Ross County 3

Ross County had the pairing of Craig Tully and Davie Ross to thank for getting them back on the winning trail.

Central defender Tully went between the sticks and strung together a series of first class saves which included beating out a penalty by Craig in the second half.

First half goals by Davie Ross and Taylor sent both sides in at the interval happy with the 1-1 scoreline.

Ex-Montrose man John McGlashan headed County into the lead early in the second half, and this was consolidated with ten minutes remaining when Ross hit his second with a spectacular volley.

Magee scored for Montrose late in the game but it was too late to make any difference to the result.

Ross County: Tully; McKay, MvBain, Haro, Maxwell, McGlashan, Ross, Kinnaird (Ferries, 83), Wood, Taylor (Furphy, 88) and Ewing (McLeod, 70).
