This match was a perfect illustration of that old cliche "a game of two halves".
In the first half County just never got going against a Clyde team that passed the ball well, dominated in midfield and gave the County back four plenty of problems. All County had to offer in that time was a couple of shots from Brian MacLeod and a Steven MacKay free kick all of which were saved by the keeper.
County's keeper Stefan Gonet was kept busy in the first half and he did well to prevent County going in at least two down at half time.
All that changed however in the second half. A very frank team talk at half time and a change in the formation produced a huge improvement. Suddenly County were a different team - Colin MacLean had come on to give the defence a better shape, Allan Lees was bossing things in midfield along with Brian Dlugonski, and Steven MacKay was now having a big influence on the game.
Five minutes into the second half Allan Lees headed County into the lead from a Ryan Witkowski corner and from then on it was County's turn to dominate the game. A great run by MacKay ended with MacLeod shooting just past. Just after this MacKay combined with MacLeod but Lees' shot went over the bar.
A second goal for County looked likely but in a rare Clyde attack a needless free kick was conceded just outside the County box. When this was taken a cruel deflection took it past the County keeper to give Clyde a scarcely deserved equaliser.
In the final fifteen minutes County continued to create chances with MacLeod again unlucky shooting just over. MacKay who was having an excellent second half looked certain to score the winner following a corner but his shot on the turn whistled past. County's final chance came five minutes from time when the same player worked his way down the left side but his cross found no takers.
The game finished level with County regretting their missed chances but also balanced that with the knowledge that they had played so much better in the second half in a match which produced good football from both sides at different stages.
Ross County U-18 (4-4-2): Stefan Gonet; Michael McInnes, Steven Edwards, Gary Ewing, Lee Williams, Ryan Witkowski, Allan Lees, Brian Dlugonski, Steven MacKay, Brian MacLeod and Mark Makhouli. Subs (all used): Colin MacLean and Martin Kenney
Ross County's Under-18 side got back to winning ways, and in doing so produced an impressive performance at Broadwood Stadium.
Coaches Danny MacDonald and Ronnie Duncan will be pleased with the commitment and professional approach displayed by the players in this game. The County lads are gaining in experience and it was encouraging to see them take control of this match, and then in the second half continue to play with maturity, not relaxing their grip of the game, keeping their discipline in what was a competitive encounter.
The first half was fairly even. County's Steven Edwards headed over from a Ryan Witkowski free kick, and then Allan Lees made good progress up the right but his cross found no takers.
Earlier on Sam MacLaughlan had to make a fine tackle and a timely interception as Clyde found space on County's right.
County opened the scoring in 25 minutes when, from forty yards out, Gary Ewing hoisted a long high ball into the Clyde goal and with the keeper floundering the ball dropped in at the far post. A spectacular way for Ewing to score his first goal of the season and one which he will insist he practises in training.
However within three minutes Clyde drew level when a cross found Clyde's Proctor who had space to head past the keeper.
Striker Ryan Rutherford's all action style was posing problems to the Clyde defence and he was winning numerous free kicks.
This paid dividends in 35 minutes when County regained the lead. Steven Mackay hit a free kick from thirty yards and although the Clyde keeper got his hands to the ball, he was unable to keep it out of the net.
The same player tried his luck again five minutes later but shot just past.
As half time approached Clyde exerted some pressure and County keeper Stefan Gonet had to be quick off his line to deal with a couple of situations.
Clyde had claims for a penalty waved away, but County deservedly led 2-1 at half time.
The second half turned out to be a tough midfield battle with County determined to keep their control of the match and hopefully put the game beyond Clyde.
County's Allan Lees was having a fine game in the middle of the park, keeping Clyde's main playmaker quiet, but also finding time to make his own forcing runs.
His fellow midfielders Brian MacLeod and Bryan Dlugonski were also working hard, with MacLeod coming close to scoring following a corner.
Wide players Witkowski and Mackay provided a threat when attacking but also did some sterling work defensively when tracking back.
Rutherford and Kenny up front did not have many clear cut chances but made their presence felt. Kenny headed past following a cross from the right, and when subsitute Scott Wilde came on he looked dangerous and might have scored to clinch the game.
Defenders MacLaughlan, Edwards and Ewing all looked composed and did not allow any mistakes to creep into their game. In goal Gonet looked very safe and alert - he was quick to spot danger and his handling was first class.
County's second half performance showed that they are learning. They displayed a mental toughness which is required at this level and at higher levels. All that was missing was a third goal, although it very nearly came just before the end when Edwards had a go from the halfway line and it just clipped the crossbar.
So a well earned victory which will hopefully set a standard for games to come.
Ross County: Stefan Gonet; Sam MacLaughlin, Steven Edwards, Gary Ewing, Ryan Witkowski, Brian MacLeod, Allan Lees, Bryan Dlugonski, Steven Mackay, Martin Kenny and Ryan Rutherford. Subs (all used): Scott Wilde, Lee Williams, Martin Sanderson, Stuart Ross and Alex Lamb.
In their final league match, Ross County beat Clyde more convincingly than the scoreline suggests. County dominated the first half but had nothing to show for it.
Scott Wilde had a chance in first five minutes but his effort was blocked by the 'keeper. Craig Campbell and then Ryan Rutherford both had efforts scrambled away.
Just before half time Wilde looked certain to score but was tackled in the act of shooting and was injured in the process.
The second half followed a similar pattern. Rutherford had a shot cleared off the line, and Steven MacKay's header was saved by the 'keeper.
County finally went ahead in 60 minutes when a driving run from Craig Campbell took him past two defenders and he went on to beat the keeper. Ten minutes later Steven McKay made it 2-0 when he headed home a fine cross from Ryan Witkowski.
Clyde hit back right away with a well struck goal from just inside the box.
County however continued to dominate and almost added to their score when efforts from Alan Lees and Martin Kenny were saved by the 'keeper.
So a good performance to end the season, finishing fourth in the league.
