Der ehrgeizige Medizinstudent Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs) wechselt nach dem mysteriösen "Unfall" seines
Doktorvaters die Universität und bringt bald Tod und Verderben über seine Komilitonen und Lehrer:
Insgeheim forscht er nämlich an einem Serum, daß Tote wiederbeleben kann. Leider hat die grün-leuchtende Mixtur
unerwünschte Nebenwirkungen: Die so Widererstandenen sind nichts anderes als mordlustige, seelenlose Zombies.
Sehr zum Leidwesen seines Mitbewohners Dan (Bruce Abbot) versucht West trotzdem, das Projekt weiter voranzutreiben.
Als der verbrecherische Dr. Hill (David Gale) West's Erfindung stehlen wird, kommt es zur Katastrophe.... |
Jeffrey Combs über Re-Animator:
"That was the first time someone said: 'Here's this big piece of cheese, chew it on it and we see what you can do' instead of just giving me the morsals. I ate it up. [...] Anthony Barnao, the casting director, had seen me in a play and suggested to my agent I auditioned for the part of Herbert West. I was fortunate that the play I was in, 'Private Wars', had a character who wasn't too disdimilar from West [...], both characters shared a similar sense of arrogance, so when I auditioned, I already had [...] eight weeks rehearsal [...].
Herbert was written so relentlessly [...]. I found a great deal of humor in him. He's so deadpan, so serious about what he's doing, but Hernert does have a sick mind with a wry sense of humor. Stuart [Gordon] really encouraged me, gave me alot of room to move around in, really trusted me, which I greatly appreciated. [...]. The costume was usefull to get into this strange guy. I asked for basic stuff: black suit, white shirt, button down collar and tie. And the glasses helped a lot. Sometimes, the costume is quite an important aid to get into a role [...], for me shoes help a lot. [...] Shoes ground a character for an actor...."
