PEGASUS

Pegasus is a winged horse that can produce fountains by the touch of his magical hoof.  He also brings Zeus his thunderbolts. This story will tell you how he was tamed...

An ancient hero named Bellerophon was told by a prophet, that if he slept on the altar of Athena, a goddess, that he could tame Pegasus. He did, and while he slept,  dreamed that Athena gave him a golden bridle and ordered him to make a sacrifice to the god, Poseidon. When he woke up, he found the bridle on the altar. He immediately sacrificed a bull and set out on a search for Pegasus. He later found Pegasus by a stream and yanked the bridle on. From then on, Pegasus was loyal to Bellerophon until one day when Bellerophon foolishly attempted to join the gods. When almost at Olympus, Bellerophon was bucked of and Pegasus flew the rest of the way without him. From then on, Pegasus carried thunderbolts for Zeus, and Bellerophon was forever crippled.
