Concerning the town of Greenville, Meriwether Co., GA...
"The town was granted a charter by the General
Assembly December 20, 1828; and Abner Durham,
Joseph Cone, Levi Adams, Matthew Leverett, and
Abraham Ragan were named as commissioners. (Ms.
Pinkston cites her source here as - Georgia's
Landmarks, Memorials, and Legends, vol 2, 1913 -
14. by Lucian Lamar Knight)

"Minutes of The Sending Relief Society
Organized in Greenville, GA
July 15, 1861
According to previous notice a portion of the
ladies of Greenville assembled for the purpose of
forming a Sending Relief Society.  At the
solicitation of the ladies, Rev. W.D. Martin was
called to the chair and Mrs. H.R. Harris requested
to act as secretary.  The chairman briefly
explained the object of the meeting when the
following names were enrolled as members."

Submitted by Rose Landmesser American Biographical Notes C page 84 CONE, FRANCIS H., b. in Connecticut; grad. at Yale; studied law, and settled in Gainesboro, N. C.,where he d. May 18, 1859, a. 61; he was judge of the Ocmulgee circuit from 1841 to 1845; and state senator in 1855–6. Men of Vermont: An Illustrated Biographical History of Vermonters and Sons of Vermont. [p.1] BIOGRAPHIES OF VERMONTERS A. D. 1892-93. Pease, Allen Luther,of Hartford, son of Luther and Harriet (Cone) Pease, was born in Hartford,Sept. 8, 1843. His father was a successful and enterprising business man in Hartford, in whose public affairs he was always prominent. Newton, William S.,of Brattleboro, son of William and Betsey (Harris) Newton, was born in Marlboro, June 26, 1822. He was of the seventh generation on the line of descent from England. Cotton Newton, his grandfather, was a soldier in the Revolutionary war, and was at the battle of Stillwater. His educational training was obtained in the common schools and at the Brattleboro Academy, and when seventeen years of [p.286] age he left the farm upon which he was born, to take his first step in active business life, being employed as clerk in the store of Jesse Cone at the center of the town, which was then located on the present site of the meeting house.
