Science Specific Experience:
One of my first employment challenges when I left home at 18 years of age was general maintenance in the pressure sensitive adheasives industry. This company used coating machines, to apply glue to paper, polymer and mylar roll stocks laminated to a silicone coated release backing.
I then migrated from the maintenance department to the lab where at the time, the company was buying nine formulae of glue from a supplier.
When I left the company two and a half years later, we were compounding 47 of our own formulae of adheasives for a variety of purposes.
One of the products marketed by the company (and credited to our development team) was ® Fireband resin adheasive on a fibreglas reinforced foil composite used in wrapping insulation around heating and transfer pipes. This adheasive was rated at minus 20 degrees centigrade through plus one hundred and forty degrees.
This product achieved a patent within the industry in 1978.
My experience in industrial instrumentation and the monitoring of systems has served my interests well. The process and control sector of industry provided me with an oppportunity to be employed as a panel shop technician.
Many of our projects were 'one of' style endevours. This allowed me to gain a wealth of practical experience in SS tubing, infrared analysers, gas chromatographs, sample handling systems, analog and digital communications, and polish my mechanical skills by working in a production shop.
This allowed my interest practical energy mangement to be applied in sample consistency and the conservation of energy resources (ovens, gradual cooling chambers, dewpoint mangement & fractioning, liquid sample injection to chromatograph stream and general troubleshooting).
Process and control systems - including science, electronics and sensors have been an intense study of mine due to the technologies that must serve us as humans - to maintain and improve our quality of life.
My exposure to flow control dynamics has also been a practical one.
During my extensive travels in the tour industry, I have used the opportunity to locate and secure extensive research from The Carnegie Mellon University - Pittsburg, The Massachusetts Institute of Technology - Cambridge, Mass., U. Dalas, TX.,etc. I used much of my layover time during these trips to further investigate some of the phnomenon in the emerging energy technologies that I recognised as a prominent trend for our future.
This allowed me to pursue the corelationship between electronics monitoring of our environment and the specific statistical trends of polution and weather on a macro scale.
Integral (Technical) Knowledge:
My natural curiosity has kept me abreast of the developments in the computer field, not in the mainstream systems but rather in the specific protocols that allow more efficient transfer of raw data, interface, configuration and protocol structures of specific models, numeric systems, clocked resonance & timing modules and universal standards. This I consider this to be a valuable foundation in the furtherance of the understanding of data transfer protocols as they continue to develop.
Computer operating systems are only useful if they are stable, reliable, simple and provide standard universal access. This is the total reasoning behind my intense study and practical applications of these concepts.
This has allowed me to apply the mathematics and sciences schooling in a very practical way. The scientific method has made both the logic and operational upgrades easier to understand and to develop.
My experience with highway coach systems has been an integral curiosity experience in applied computer controllers. These modern wonders use protocols that are very familiar to me in the way they sense, control and report operations to the sub-systems and to the driver. For instance, the internal climate control must sometimes be monitored manually because the accuracy of the displayed temperature may disagree with the actual temperature.
Manual compensation is sometimes necessary for passenger comfort and ultimately the reduction of stress during a trip. This would often require manual temperature monitoring of the air at the output of an air conditioning duct.
Weather management is an integral part of planning ether a highway trip or a cross country flight in a plane. Interpreting the instrumentation and reporting methods used by a local weather service is a unique interest due to the fact that this attention to detail can be the difference between mere survival and actually getting to your destination with fuel on board - with the fatigue factor minimized.
My specific interests in weather, instruments and observational methodology have allowed me to excell in planning and dead recconning for the trips that I have taken. Most times my predictions are even more accurate than the 'general' weather forcast due to the specific observation of the micro climate affects in a moving weather system. This has achieved a higher efficiency and enjoyability factor for most of the excursions in which I participated.
As a pilot in command, flying is a very exacting yet very rewarding experience. There is little latitude for mistakes or ignoring the detail or feedback. All operations demand the attention to detail and management in order to illiminate stress and to bring enjoyment to the sport.
Expansion of Life Skills (Through Community):
I have had the priviledge of being involved with several community based organisations that have allowed me to experience the 'big picture' a little more clearly. This includes such personal attributes as compassion, empathy, one to one charity, and most importantly - edification. One must find the silver lining in any situation. This has allowed me to find the best in individuals even if they show little promise.
Renewable energy sciences, conservation & recovery have allowed me to be instrumental in providing a 'cheap' alternative to underpriviledged members of our community. The methods and systems explained in the scientific community may sometimes be written in a technical format that is both subject to interpretation and in too complex a language style for the common individual.
It has been my experience to be an interpreter as a result. To take a subject that is complex and simplify it to point of becoming 'common sense' for the layman, is a very rewarding process. I get a real 'kick' out of sharing a practical methodology in my teaching of these scientific discoveries.
Hobbies (General Interests):
Radio control models have allowed me to prove and realise theories of operation into very practical achievements. A working model of a prototype is always more valuable than an academic concept. Most of the 'fun' is in the trial and error of the failures. This has been a very useful tool in the visualization process for some of the industrial projects in which I have been involved.
I have been a student of animal behavior both in large breeds (horses) and aquatic life in the wild and captivity. I find the work ethic that must be observed to care for pets of both these variances rewarding. They are totally depandant on the symbiotic relationship of the care giver for their health and well being. The unique personalities of pets enrich our lives in ways that far exceed our expectations.
