Guiding Light

Jenna & Buzz: Lonely Thanksgiving 11/93

Scene I: The Spaulding Mansion

Jenna is all alone and sitting on the couch with both her hands on her face. The clock chimes.

Jenna: (after hearing a noise) Ginger? Donna?

Buzz: (coming through the door) You really must stop forgetting to close your garage door. But how else would I get in?

Jenna laughs.

Buzz: (sitting down beside her) She looks exquisite. You left Frank's without your turkey and stuffing.

Jenna: I, uh, I didn't want anybody to see me, I really didn't. I-I took the maids out for dinner and then gave them the night off and realized I was going to be all alone in this house, so I just wanted to see what a good Thanksgiving looked like.

Buzz: I don't know what I'm going to do with you. I don't know whether to thank you or hit you. I saw, I saw you through that window. You looked like, even with your million dollar duds, a ragamuffin. You looked so lonely. So I thought I'd come over here and check. You okay? Her eyes are out of this world...angelic.

Jenna: (softly) Yeah.

Buzz: Yeah? If she weren't married, I'd take her to my place.

Jenna: Yeah, I'm okay. But I am that lonely.

Buzz kisses her hand and then they lean in to kiss.

Buzz: I want to kiss her and make love to her. To hell with Rog. (pulling away) Okay, I'm sorry. Why didn't I kiss her? I had to go thinking about Roger.

Jenna: What do you want me to do? What do you want to prove? What do you want me to prove? Do you want me to jump through hoops? Do you want me to walk through fire? Just tell me what it is so that I'll know whether or not I'm up for it!

Buzz: Sounds kinky. I'm game if you are.

Roger walks in.

Roger: So, this is why you wanted me out of the house, huh?

Scene II:

Buzz: Here comes a Springer moment.

Jenna: Whom I invite into my house is my buisness and I would like you to leave right now.

Buzz: Call the police. Wait, my son's a cop. Call Frank.

Roger: Hey, you stay out of this. This is between my wife and myself.

Buzz: You rotten S.O.B. It's your house. Throw him out!

Jenna: Stop it! For pity's sake, please! Roger, I want you to leave.

Buzz: Wow, she's so forceful. The dominating type...baby, I'm yours.

Roger: Sure, I'll come back another time, when it's more convenient for you. (pointing to Buzz) You, I'll see separately!

Buzz: Was that supposed to scare me?

Roger leaves.

Buzz gets up from the couch and walks over to Jenna.

Buzz: I can not believe you married him. You should've married me. (moans) If you're wondering why I'm gun-shy, one very good reason just walked through the door. What are you going to do about Mr. Thorpe?

Scene III:

Buzz: I can't believe I'm about to say this to such a gorgeous woman who I'm crazy about. I better be going.

He starts walking out the door.

Jenna: (tears) Why? Are are you angry at me now? Why? You can see what a difficult situation I have with Roger!

Buzz: I want to cradle her in my arms forever. (faces her) Well, that's another good reason for me not to be here.

Jenna: Fine, fine.

Buzz: You know, it's one thing to stay married for the baby's sake. It doesn't make any more sense to stay married for the money, but at least I respect you for it. You once asked me if I'd be around when you came out at the end of a tunnel that you feel that you're in. If you want it, you don't have to walk through fire for it. Just get rid of that guy. Figure out a way to divorce your husband. I'll see you later, sweetheart.

Buzz leaves.

Jenna smiles and walks to the phone.

Jenna: Ross? Jenna Bradshaw here. I-I wanted to leave you a message. I didn't expect you to be there. It's a holiday after all. I was wondering if your secretary could call me tomorrow to make an appointment.
