While awaiting the development of more advanced naval fighters, the
IJN ordered some 220 of the A4N fighter starting in 1935. It was a
fairly unremarkable biplane and was no longer in frontline service by
1941, although it did see service in China in the late 1930's.
The A4N had a crew of one. The A4N uses 24.5 gallons of aviation gas at routine usage.
