Cordelia paced around the foyer of the Hyperion Hotel occasionally looking up at the clock. Tonight was a big night for her she had gotten Wesley and Fred to go out on a date and now she waited eagerly for the results. They have been gone a long time, she thought and shook her head. They are probably just having fun. It had been a while since anyone in her circle of friends had done that, fun she had almost forgotten what fun was like. While she was pondering this point Fred, came through the door.

“Cordy, you were waiting up for me?”

“Hell yes” she ushered Fred to the counter “I want to know everything, what did you have for dinner? How was the movie? Did he kiss you goodnight? When can I send out the wedding invitations?”

“Cordy, slow down” she thought it was odd that the seer seemed more excited about the date than she was.

Fred took a breath “Dinner was lovely, we had fish”

“Oysters?” Cordelia asked. Fred knew what she was thinking and hit her playfully.

“Are you going to let me finish?”

“You’re right I’m sorry”

“The movie was great, Chicago you know?” Cordy nodded. “Overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening”

“And?” Cordelia asked Fred looked at her blankly “Where’s my kissage?” she smiled.

“A lady never tells but there was some kissing going on” Fred simply hinted.

Cordy clapped her hands together. “Alright Queen C strikes again”

Fred yawned “Time for bed now. Goodnight”

“Goodnight” Cordy called upstairs. Boy did she feel good. Maybe I could get a job as a professional matchmaker, she thought. But first she would have to find herself a man.

“Morning” Wesley Wyndham-Pryce greeted. Cordelia smiled “No doubt you’ve heard the gossip about my date last night?” he said casually. She nodded.

“I’m so happy for you” Cordelia exclaimed. Wesley smiled and went into his office.

“So any cases today?”

“No everything is pretty much dead” Cordy giggled “But I do have some research to do”

“Need any help?”

“No I’m fine” she went over to sit at the counter.

The research she was doing actually consisted of going through the personals. Pretty lame huh? She really needed to get out more, be with normal people. But what was the chance that these people were normal? As she looked through the papers her eye kept wandering to the man in the office.

They were the only two up at this hour; Angel slept all day, Fred didn’t wake up till at least eleven and Gunn didn’t check in till late afternoon. She missed spending time with him. She gathered up her papers and sat down at his desk. Wesley picked up one of her stray papers.

“Cordelia, the personals?”

“I know… it’s just - I’m lonely. I want to be happy like you and Fred are,” she confessed. He looked away and Cordelia sensed he was hiding something “What is it?”

“What exactly did Fred say to you?” Wesley wondered.

“That you had a lovely evening”

“That’s right. We did”

“Well… then what?”

“She wasn’t the one. Sure we have a lot in common but I didn’t feel the spark”

“Spark?” Cordelia repeated.

“We decided to stay just friends and I kissed her goodnight”

“Then why did she say…?” Cordelia asked absently as she recapped Fred’s retelling of the previous night’s events.

“Who knows why she does anything?” Wesley smiled.

She sat back in her chair feeling disappointed and confused. Why did Fred imply that everything was love hearts and chocolates?

“I’m sorry if we upset you” Wesley comforted.

“No big. I’ll just have to find you someone else” she said with a half smile and went back out to the counter.

Cordelia was confused. Why hadn’t it worked? She was usually so good at this sort of thing. Wesley was a great guy, smart, sexy, killer accent… True there was a time when she thought he was attractive but she marked it down to a silly schoolyard crush. A crush to make her annoying ex jealous.

But then there was the whole vision thing. When she first got them she tried her hardest to make the go away by kissing anyone she could get her hands on. It was just a coincidence that Wesley was there; looking sexy, wearing leather. Besides, he had learned how to kiss during his absence. Cordy was a little upset that she wasn’t more focused on the kissage but from her vague memory of that night she knew it was good.

“Cordelia?” Wesley’s voice interrupted “Are you alright? You look flustered”

She turned a deeper shade of red, as if he knew what she was thinking about…

“Nothing I’m fine,” she looked into his concerned face “Why don’t you think it worked?”

“Just wasn’t meant to be” Wesley replied, resting it importance.

She was going to regret this if she didn’t ask.

“What about us? Did we have a spark?”

“Oh yes. Fireworks”

He leaned in and gently kissed her cheek. Right then, Cordelia took the initiative and wrapped her arms around him, then kissing him full on the lips. This time there were no other distractions. Just her, Wesley and the overwhelming urge to see him naked.

“Wow” Cordelia said dazed.

Wesley smiled “Perhaps you would like to take this into the office” he said breathlessly. She nodded enthralled. They stumbled into the office and shut the door.

From the top of the stairs two people looked on.

“I told you things have a way of working themselves out”

“Guess I owe you twenty bucks” Angel handed the young Texan her money.

“Don’t forget my year’s supply of tacos”
