COMMENTARY / QUICK HITS

Rotation 1

Junior A had a strong start on vault with Tanya Schneider leading off with a 9.125 on her front handspring to front tuck 1/2. Kelsall struggled on her vault and only managed an 8.150. Luckily, Nasya Xaria came up big on her first vault (the one that counted) and also vaulted a clean second vault for an event finals berth. Julie Davenport's first vault wasn't as strong, but her second vault was amazing, earning her a 9.425.

Junior B started off with nerves on bars, with both Kyles and Larsen getting just below 9 and Bitty Schneider had some small errors, but Adrie Valmonte was calm and collected in her anchor position.

Junior C had a rough start on beam with no one getting higher than Bersovich's 9.125 but no one scored abysmally low either. The team looked happy to get through treacherous event with a nice range of scores.

Despite Fontaine's stumble on floor, the Junior D team rebounded with consecutive and building routines, culmanating in Krista Beck's highest score so far, 9.575. That will likely guarantee her a spot in event finals.

Standings
Team: D-28.050, B-27.750, A-27.550, C-27.225, E-no score

Rotation 2

With the bye format, it was interesting to see how Team E would do and it was also of interest how their five person team would stack up with everyone else. They struggled early on vault with Cahil, Kate Prinz-Schneider and Khachaturian all scoring below 9. Karle Meyer also struggled but managed to get above 9 on her first vault. Natalie Scoggins came up big on both her vaults, redeeming the team.

Over on uneven bars, Junior A struggled as well. Xaria scored big on her set to hopefully help Tanya Schneider's score, but she was unable to capitolize. This meant that the team would unlikely gain any ground on teams B & D (who had a bye this round).

Obviously, Team B had a chance to take the lead and made good of it. Schneider started off with a huge 9.550 and while Valmonte didn't go higher, she stayed above 9. Larsen stayed within range and it set up Kyles to do well. Unfortunately, she stumbled off the beam on one of her more difficult series of elements.

Junior C continued to struggle. While three of the four teammembers managed to score above 9, they weren't very high above that mark, meaning they will likely fall further behind the other teams. It also means that there will be an intense battle for who makes the all around final from the team, as now they are all very close together.

Standings
Team: B-56.000, A-55.050, C-54.400, D-28.050, E-27.375

Rotation 3

Team D was back in the game on vault and the break proved to be a hinderance for them rather than something positive. They just couldn't seem to pick up momentum, even with Beck anchoring. They were able to stay ahead of teams A & C in their two event totals from the previous rotations, however.

Team E struggled on bars with only last up Khachaturian scoring above 9. This meant that they would be battling it out with Team C (on break this rotation) not to finish in last place.

Team A did pick up some ground on B, getting a 9.475 from Xaria and a 9.250 from Davenport. In contrast, Team B will count scores hovering around 9.

Standings
Team: B-83.000, A-82.600, D-55.150, C-54.400, E-54.100

Rotation 4

Junior C struggled to maintain it's lead over Team E and after this rotation, only .075 separates them. On vault, Rachel Wisniewski managed two solid vaults, and her better score was counted towards the team total. Stasia Bersovich continued to struggle in the competition and there appeared to be some concern regarding her previous injury and how it may be affecting her. On beam, Khachaturian did her job of anchoring the team on the event with a 9.2

Team D managed to pick up some more ground as B had their bye this rotation. This was helped in large part to Sophia Bennett's 9.575 on bars. Olga Zakarenkova and Krista Beck were also not too shabby in that regard.

Team A ended their competition on floor and they had hoped for better. Schneider struggled throughout her routine and was not able to start the group off solidly. Xaria managed to get the momentum back up, but even Davenport and Kelsall, the last two up, struggled to take it any further. Now the team must sit back and see how their team score holds up.

Standings
Team: A-109.225, D-83.100, B-83.000, C-81.400, E-81.325

Rotation 5

B's vaulting was solid enough to keep them in contention, with Valmonte and Bitty Schneider going above 9. Their scoring went quicker than the other events, so they were able to sit back with the members of team A to see how their 110.2 would do with the other teams finishing up.

C was still fighting for 4th place and if they did well, they could even challenge A for 3rd, With Bersovich and Wisniewski both hitting big, they managed to surpass team A.

Team D had the pressure of being in the lead for the final rotation, but they did not let it get to them. Beck, Bennet and Zakarenkova all managed to hit their routines to give them the win.

Even with the extra team member, Team E struggled all night long. On their final event, only Kate Prinz-Schneider and Natalie Scoggins could manage to do well on their floor routines.
