the world, set your
envy-meters to "overload."
Supremely
hairy, "Cavey" was also blessed with a great set
of lungs,
which he would use to belt out his name when flying into action. The
characters had originated on Scooby’s All-Star Laff-A-Lympics in 1977,
in which a lot of Hanna Barbera’s characters, new ones and classic ones
competed for the Laff Olimpics gold medal
in numerous competitions each week all
over the globe. The Scooby Doobies, Yogi
Yahooeys and Really Rottens were the 3 teams that competed each other
in these competitions, Captain Caveman and The Teen Angels were part of
the Scooby Doobies team. At this point Captain Caveman became a huge
hit among the new cartoons that one can see in this new show, but
Cavey's outrageous antics were too much to contain to ensemble work. So
Hanna-Barbera finally gave the shaggy hero his own show in that same
year, titled Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels.

The program only ran for 16 episodes, but the Captain found a more fitting home in Bedrock, playing as a supporting character on The Flintstones Comedy Show, in which he became a super hero a la Superman. A hairy and shy reporter that turns in Captain Caveman. He worked with Betty and Wilma in the Daily Granite Newspaper. BTW, Betty and Welma were also reporters and like Lois Lane they always manage to get themselves in to trouble where ever they go. Later in 1986 Captain Caveman appeared again at a side of his sun Cavey Jr. in the Bedrock Flintstone Kids Show, in which all the original characters from The Flintstones appeared as 10 year old kids. Captain Caveman became Fred, Barney, Betty and Welma's favorite TV Super Hero. Although the other versions of Captain Caveman where good, my favorite ones will always be The Laff a Olympics and Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels. |
