Britney Out, Aniston New Top Forbes Celebrity

Pop princess Britney Spears learned on Thursday that fame can be fleeting as she disappeared from this year's Forbes Top 100 Celebrity List after last year's No. 1 spot.

Replacing her at the top is Jennifer Aniston, one of TV's "Friends" stars, who earned $35 million last year and appeared on more magazine covers than any other celebrity.

Jennifer "J-Lo" Lopez and Ben Affleck emerged as Hollywood's hottest new power couple, occupying the fifth and seventh spots on the list, with a combined income of $65 million.

It has not been a good year for Spears, who hit it big in 1999 with "Oops!..I Did it Again." She has had a string of bad press recently, as her much publicized relationship with Justin Timberlake of N'Sync went sour; her movie "Crossroads," was less than successful.

She was also photographed flipping off the paparazzi in Mexico after refusing to go on stage in a rain storm, while photos in the New York Post of her smoking also worked to tarnish her good-girl image.

"Good press or bad press, all press is equal in our eyes," said Peter Kafka, an editor at Forbes, the business magazine that compiled the list, which takes into consideration earnings, press clippings, radio and TV coverage and web hits.

"By dollar value, Britney did not have a big album or a big tour, the proponents that usually land celebrities on the list," said Kafka.

Rappers Eminem and Dr. Dre take the number 2 slot this year, also earning $35 million, but with nearly 2 million web hits. Golfer Tiger Woods slipped from 2 to 3, while earning $78 million -- $9 million more than last year.

Kafka said Aniston, whose husband, Brad Pitt, did not make the list, was a bit of a surprise. "Aniston's marriage may have helped to propel her to 13 covers, but she is still one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood," he said.

Aniston's female "Friends," Lisa Kudrow (30) and Courteney Cox (41) made the list, but only one male co-star, Matthew Perry (25).

"Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling, catapulted from 34 in 2002 to 15 this year amid anticipation about the latest book in the children's series. Rowling's earnings increased by about $90 million, up from $41.8 million.

While golfer Woods was by far the most powerful sports celebrity, basketball legend Michael Jordan was 13 with motor racing's Michael Schumacher at 19. Soccer star David Beckham entered the list at 56, but without Spice Girl wife Victoria.

Rounding out the top ten were movie director Steven Spielberg (4), ex-Beatle Paul McCartney (6), Oprah Winfrey (8), Tom Hanks (9) and The Rolling Stones (10).

1 - Jennifer Aniston
She still doesn't command a movie marquee like Julia Roberts, but in some respects she's even more popular, especially with magazine editors, who put her on more covers in the last 12 months than any other celeb. Star credentials: Married to Brad Pitt, earns $1.25 million per episode for NBC's Friends, recently starred alongside Jim Carrey in this summer's Bruce Almighty.
Previous lists: # 28 on 100 Top Celebrities 2002 , # 51 on 100 Top Celebrities 2001

25 - Matthew Perry
It's so nice to have good friends. Not only does the NBC sitcom Friends pay him $1.25 million per episode, he also received a friendly sum for the reprise of his role alongside pal Bruce Willis in their comedy sequel, The Whole Ten Yards.
Previous lists: Matthew is new on the list.

31 - Lisa Kudrow
She augmented her Friends pay—$1.25M per episode—with salary from the upcoming film Wonderland.

Like Jennifer Aniston, she earns $1.25 million per episode of Friends, and like Jennifer Aniston, she is married to an actor though David Arquette has a lower swoon factor than Brad Pitt. She also moonlighted as a celebrity endorser for Coca-Cola.

Tough Farewell Looms for Jen, Courteney

It's going to be an awfully difficult parting for real-life "Friends" Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox when the two wrap up their NBC sitcom next year, PEOPLE reports in its latest cover story.

Since meeting at an audition for the must-see TV show in 1994, Aniston, 34, and Cox, 38 have developed a bond that far exceeds the famously friendly rapport of the cast.

"Jennifer appreciates the best of Courteney and Courteney appreciates the best of Jennifer," a show insider tells the magazine. "You don't see that a lot in show business -- this mutual friendship and respect, especially on the same show."

As for what will happen to that amity after the show wraps its 10th and final season, Cox's husband, David Arquette, predicts plenty of dinner parties, lunch dates and girls' nights out.

"They became real friends while playing them on TV. That won't end because the show is going off the air," says Arquette, 31. "They can't just turn that off."

The on button clicked in virtually the moment the two actresses met nine years ago. "They clicked immediately," says a veteran TV exec who was present that day.

In the years since, PEOPLE says, Aniston and Cox seek each other out during five-minute breaks on the set and enjoy joint pedicures and manicures during longer lulls.

While fellow friend Lisa Kudrow, 39, often joins the two for lunch, says a "Friends" source, Aniston and Cox "have more in common. It's just an easy friendship."

Friends star Matt LeBlanc got married to model Melissa McKnight.

Friends star Matt Le Blanc has married his long-time partner Melissa Knight in Hawaii. The happy couple was supported by a host of their show biz pals as they said their vows on the paradise island of Kauai.

Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer were all in attendance. And there was some added A-list support from Jennifer's husband Brad Pitt and Courteney's beau David Arquette. The only member of the Friends cast who couldn't make it along was Matthew Perry, who is currently appearing on stage in London.

The ceremony took place on a secluded property overlooking the exclusive Anini Beach. While many of the guests dressed in floral Hawaii shirts, Matt himself wore a black tuxedo while mother-of-two Melissa opted for a white gown and veil. After the vows, the 50 guests dined on a four-tiered passion fruit cake, and champagne toasts were made to the newlyweds.

It is expected that Matt and Melissa will stay on to honeymoon on the island and they have reportedly booked a £6,000-a-week villa which was recently used by Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart.

Second article: LeBlanc, Gal-Pal Get Lei'd

Matt LeBlanc and longtime fiancée Melissa McKnight became more than just friends on Saturday when the pair swapped vows in the Hawaiian tropics.

LeBlanc and McKnight were married on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, according to televised reports. While news of the impending union surfaced in the media last week, LeBlanc's rep has refused to confirm the good news.

The ceremony allegedly took place on the bluffs overlooking Anini Beach, an exclusive 12-acre beachfront property. Decked out in a dark suit, LeBlanc sported a white lei, while his bride wore a long white gown.

The pupu platter-noshing crowd reportedly included the thesp's best Friends: Jennifer Aniston and her hubby, Brad Pitt; Courteney Cox Arquette and her man, David Arquette; Lisa Kudrow; and David Schwimmer.

The A-list guests and others partied at a reception on site, dining on passion fruit cake and toasting the newly minted couple at midnight.

LeBlanc and McKnight, a former model, announced their engagement in 1998. She has two children from a previous marriage. This was LeBlanc's first walk down the aisle.

Most commonly known as brainless-but-beautiful Joey Tribbiani on the hit NBC comedy, Industry insiders recently speculated that LeBlanc's character would be the subject of a Peacock network spinoff once Friends wrapped up its 10th and final season in 2004. Not so dumb after all.

While details of the spinoff remain vague (and largely denied by NBC) LeBlanc seems wise to stick to his day job, where he pulls in an estimated $1 million per week. His feature film credits have largely been duds, including the big-screen version of Lost in Space, everybody's favorite baseball-playing-chimp flick, Ed and the military-in-drag laffer All the Queen's Men . While Charlie's Angels was a certified success, in true Tribbiani form, LeBlanc played little more than eye candy--he'll be back again to sweeten the sequel when it's released in June.

Courteney Cox Arquette pregnant?

FRIENDS star COURTENEY COX is delighted after discovering she is expecting her first child.

The pretty actress, who plays Monica Bing in the US sitcom, is almost three months pregnant.

Just like her character in the series, she has been trying desperately to have a baby.

Courteney, who is married to her Scream co-star DAVID ARQUETTE, has undergone exhaustive consultations with medical experts in her bid to start a family.

A source close to the actress said: “Courteney is pregnant and she is delighted.

“She has been desperate to start a family ever since she got married but she hasn’t had too much luck in the past.

“She went to see some fertility specialists at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles last year and she and David have been trying for months.

“They’re both scared but excited about the pregnancy and have their fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong.”

Courteney is 38 and told friends she was concerned that the longer it took for her to get pregnant, the harder it would be.

She has been through the heartache of two miscarriages and pals say she and David are praying nothing goes wrong this time.

One said: “They’re hoping it will be third time lucky for them.”

Courteney met David on the set of teen-slasher movie Scream, in which she starred as the ambitious TV reporter Gale Weathers and he played her love interest, Dewey.

They began dating while making the imaginatively-titled first sequel, Scream 2.

Their wedding took place at Grace Cathedral, the crowning glory of San Francisco’s Nob Hill, in June, 1999.

Among the 150 guests were the Friends cast, plus LIAM NEESON, KEVIN SPACEY and BRAD PITT.

Courteney, who once dated Batman star MICHAEL KEATON, lives in a seafront Malibu home with David and their pet dogs.

In Friends, currently being screened on E4 and Channel 4, Monica and screen hubby Chandler go through similar problems when trying to start a family.

And for those of you who don’t want to know what happens next in the Bing baby saga stop reading NOW...(they eventually discover they are infertile).

Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt together in new movie?

Hollywood's favourite couple, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, are set to make their big screen debut by playing husband and wife in a new movie.

Jennifer will play a politician's wife who's suddenly confronted with her past when the son she gave up for adoption comes looking for her. The black comedy, which has not yet been given a title, takes a satirical look at the world of US politics.

The golden couple's other joint production, a family, may therefore have to wait a little longer. Speaking in a recent interview, Jen said she and Brad would wait "until Friends is over" to start having children. The tenth and final series of the series will be hitting British screens next autumn.

The 33-year-old is also set to star in the comedy Bruce Almighty with Jim Carrey while her hunky husband takes on the role of Achilles in Troy. After that he is set to take a deadly turn as Nicole Kidman's partner in the murder thriller Mr And Mrs Smith, so it would seem that the pitter patter of little feet may be a long way off.

David Schwimmer stays with NBC after Friends

NBC will keep at least one of its best Friends in the fold after next season.

The Peacock's top-rated comedy will conclude its decade-long run in May 2004, but David Schwimmer's planning on sticking around a bit longer.

NBC announced Thursday that it's inked Schwimmer to a two-year deal--but not for his acting. Instead, Schwimmer will develop, produce and direct his own projects, as well as helm other Peacock shows.

"We want to extend our mutually successful relationship with David in other creative arenas," says network programming boss Jeff Zucker. "This deal will provide even more opportunities for his many natural talents besides acting, since he’s proven himself in so many other artistic endeavors."

Although he's best known on the tube as the oft-whiny, oft-married Ross Geller, Schwimmer has directed 10 episodes of Friends, as well as several stage plays and the 1998 Miramax flick Since You've Been Gone.

He has adapted and will helm a stage version of the Studs Terkel book Race. Schwimmer's production will open the new theater for his Chicago-based acting troupe, Lookingglass Theater Company, next month.

According to Variety, NBC will set up Schwimmer with cash, an office and a staff. The network has reportedly committed to make a pilot from at least one of Schwimmer's pitches.

Not that Schwimmer, a onetime Emmy nominee for his Ross role, is giving up thespian pursuits altogether; he recently starred in the L.A. production of the play Turnaround and had a role in Mike Figgis' upcoming indie, Hotel. And he still has one more season of Friends.

Meanwhile, NBC is still reportedly trying to figure out how to spin off Matt LeBlanc's inept actor, Joey Tribbiani, into his own series.

As for their post-Friends plans, fellow cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox Arquette, Lisa Kudrow and Matthew Perry have all talked about continuing their big-screen careers. Cox Arquette is currently developing a home-decorating show called Mix It Up for the WE cable network set to debut this fall. And, once the Friends gang disbands, she and Aniston are reportedly ready for a decidedly un-Hollywood project: mommyhood.

Matthew Perry makes his stage debut in "Sexual Perversity in Chicago"

David Mamet’s classic 1974 play, “SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO”, will open in London at the Comedy Theatre on 14 May, following previews from 3 May. Starring Hank Azaria, Minnie Driver and Matthew Perry, the play, which was last seen in London in 1977 at the Regent Theatre, will be directed by Lindsay Posner. Further casting will be announced shortly.

Controversial, provocative and bitingly funny, “SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO” is a play about four young people looking for love. ‘Danny’ (Matthew Perry) and his friend ‘Bernie’ (Hank Azaria) are two ‘regular guys’, pursuing women in all the normal places: bars, libraries, beaches – any place where single women congregate. ‘Deborah’ and her roommate ‘Joan’ (Minnie Driver) are two normal girls, trying to pursue men without actively appearing to do so. They go to the same bars, libraries and beaches. ‘Danny’ and ‘Deborah’ meet and begin an affair, while the other two watch cynically from the sidelines, exerting subtle but hostile pressure on their friends. Their sex lives and their attitudes towards love, lust and commitment are played out amid filing cabinets and the singles bar scene.

Mamet’s characters speak for their generation. Primarily, as young people trying to uncover the mysteries of the opposite sex, they discuss relationships and what women and men really want.

David Mamet is one of America’s most lauded and respected writers and has won countless awards for work on both stage and screen. He first achieved acclaim in the 1970s, most notably for “SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO” and “American Buffalo”. During the following decade he began writing for film, and subsequently scripted, amongst many others, “The Untouchables”, “The Verdict” (Oscar nominated), “Ronin”, “The Postman Always Rings Twice”, “Wag The Dog”, “We’re No Angels” and “State and Maine” (which he also directed). In 1984 he won the Pulitzer Prize for his play “Glengarry Glen Ross”, which he also adapted for the screen. Since then his major plays have included “Speed-the-Plow”, “Oleanna” and “Boston Marriage”, all of which have been produced on both sides of the Atlantic.

As one of the most popular actors of his generation, Matthew Perry continues to impress critics and make audiences laugh in his Emmy-nominated role as ‘Chandler Bing’ in the Emmy-Award winning TV series “Friends”. The show, in its ninth season, is consistently one of the highest-rated comedies on television. Perry has been successful in making the transition from the small screen to feature films. In 2000, Perry joined Bruce Willis in the Warner Brothers hit comedy, “The Whole Nine Yards”. Perry is currently in production simultaneously on the sequel, “The Whole Ten Yards”, with Willis and “Friends”. His feature film debut was in “A Night in The Life of Jimmy Reardon”, starring River Pheonix. Amongst his feature film credits are “Fools Rush In”, a romantic comedy co-starring Selma Hayek, “Almost Heroes” with the late Chris Farley and Eugene Levy and “Three to Tango”, with Neve Campbell, Dylan McDermott and Oliver Platt. He was most recently seen in “Serving Sara” with Elizabeth Hurley

Perry is set to star in the independent feature, “Fever”, with Robin Tunney, which marks his first dramatic film role and “Beginning of Wisdom”, opposite his father, John Bennett Perry. He also has a two-picture deal with Paramount Studios to star in two films.

Minnie Driver is one of the UK’s most successful film actresses. She first came to the attention of audiences and critics alike for her acclaimed performance in “Circle of Friends”, in which she starred with Chris O’Donnell and Alan Cumming. She went on to earn an Oscar and Screen Actors Guild nomination both in the category of Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for her performance in “Good Will Hunting”.

Driver has just completed production on Miramax’s “Ella Enchanted”, in which Minnie plays ‘Ella’s’ devoted Nanny. The film also stars Anne Hathaway and was directed by Tommy O’Haver. Minnie will soon be seen in “Hope Springs” which is adapted from the book “New Cardiff” (the first novel for 20 years to be written by Charles Webb, who wrote “The Graduate”) and co-stars Colin Firth and Heather Graham. She is also co-starring with Philip Seymour Hoffman and John Hurt in “Owning Mahoney”, which premiered at the Sundance Festival in January and is being screened at the Berlin Film Festival.

Building her career on diverse roles, Driver received accolades for her performances in the critically praised dark comedy “Grosse Pointe Blank” and the love story “Return to Me” and subsequently co-starred with Cate Blanchett and Rupert Everett in the feature version of Oscar Wilde’s play “An Ideal Husband”. Her additional film credits include “Big Night”, directed by Stanley Tucci, “Sleepers”, alongside Robert DeNiro, Brad Pitt and Dustin Hoffman and the James Bond thriller, “Goldeneye”. Minnie’s theatre credits include “Chatsky” at the Almeida and “Raving Beauties” at the Oldham Coliseum. Most recently she guested in the hugely successful “The Play What I Wrote”.

Hank Azaria is one of America’s most versatile actors. He has gained cult status for providing the voices for several key characters on the animated hit comedy series “The Simpsons”, for which he has won two Emmy’s. One of his best-known film roles to date was that of the clumsy and perpetually next-to-naked gay houseboy ‘Aguador’ in the “The Birdcage”. He has also done memorable work in such films as “Great Expectations”, which cast him as Gwyneth Paltrow’s lacklustre fiancé and in Tim Robbins’ “Cradle Will Rock”, in which he played leftist playwright ‘Marc Blitzstein’. He recently appeared in “America’s Sweethearts”, in which he starred opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones and Julia Roberts. Other film credits include “Celebrity”, “Pretty Woman”, “Quiz Show”, “Grosse Pointe Blank”, and “Godzilla”. Azaria is currently in production on “The Untitled John Hamburg Project”, with Jennifer Aniston and Ben Stiller and recently finished filming on “Shattered Glass”. Later this year he will star in “Eulogy”, with Winona Ryder and Debra Winger. Azaria has appeared frequently on stage, including a much-praised performance in “Conspicuous Consumption”, for which he won a Dramalogue Award.

Lindsay Posner is one of the UK’s top directors, who has recently been responsible for “Tartuffe” (Martin Clunes) at the National Theatre and “Twelfth Night” (Guy Henry) and “The Rivals” (Wendy Craig) both at the RSC. He has also directed Alison Steadman in “The Provok’d Wife” at the Old Vic, Emily Watson in “The Lady From The Sea” at the Lyric Hammersmith and Ken Stott in “The Misanthrope” at the Young Vic. He was Associate Director at the Royal Court Theatre between 1987 and 1992, where he notably directed the world premiere of Ariel Dorfman’s “Death and the Maiden”. In July this year, Posner will be directing the world premiere of “Power”, by Nick Dear, starring Robert Lindsey at the National Theatre.

“SEXUAL PERVERSITY IN CHICAGO” is produced by Mark Rubinstein, Old Vic Productions and Sonia Friedman Productions.
