Magical Eyes

The following items were created by the Mage Jorvan Lenekh, author of the Book of Sight:

Cat’s-Eye Pendant

This is an ornate piece of jewelery, consisting of a chrysoberyl (also known as a "cat’s eye" stone) mounted in the centre of a golden, sigil-marked disk and suspended from a gold chain. roughly 2" across, it is unusually heavy for its size. It radiates strongly when Detect Magic is cast.

One of Jorvan Lenekh’s most successful creations, the Pendant has two functions; one continuous, and one which requires activation. When worn, the Pendant grants the wearer catlike vision, enabling him to see perfectly in dusky gloom, or on a moonlit night; even in the darkest, moonless night, there is sufficient natural radiance to provide the wearer with perfect vision to about 30’ away. However, in the pitch blackness found underground or within a windowless room (or inside a Darkness spell), the wearer of the Pendant is as blind as the next person.

Once per day, the wearer can draw on the Pendant’s other power; for one Turn, he may sense the presence of any feline mind within 360’ and, if he chooses, may see through its eyes at will. The wearer cannot influence the beast in any manner, however, and can only see what the cat chooses to look at. While using this power, the continuous ability is shut off.

The Cat’s-Eye Pendant has only one potential drawback; for as long as it is worn, the wearer’s eyes resemble those of a cat, with vertical slits for pupils. This is an illusion, but is no less disconcerting because of that. Some bearers, of course, actually enjoy the disturbed looks that this effect gives them.

Jorvan created more than a dozen of these items, mostly on commission, during his lifetime; many belong to particular Wendarian nobles or their families, but a few have been lost over time and might potentially be found anywhere.

The Cyclopean Eye

Created especially for Gylharen the Wizard-King, this unique item is a 1"-diameter hemispherical disk of clear crystal, containing the image of what appears to be the iris and pupil of a human eye. It is backed by pure silver, which appears to vibrate slightly when touched.

When the amulet’s silver side is placed against a person’s forehead, the Eye magically adheres to the wearer; only the touch of that wearer can remove it while he lives. By closing his eyes, the wearer may magically see through the Eye with the power of Truesight. This power functions at any time, although casting a Dispel Magic at the amulet will cancel the power for 1 Turn.

In addition to Truesight, the Eye grants its wearer the following powers, available on mental command:
