The Spice Egg

Nobody knows where this unique item originated; it merely appeared one day in the home of Ronald de Chingford, a Darokinian wizard of some note. He believes it was created in some Outer Plane, although the truth of the matter may never be uncovered.

The Spice Egg resembles a normal chicken's egg, save for three important details; its size (six inches long from point to base), its colour (a mirror-like silvery sheen, which seems to shimmer with rainbow colours when light is shone upon it), and the fact that faint, discordant music may be heard if the Egg is held close to the ear.

If dropped or thrown, the Spice Egg explodes in a cavalcade of light and sound; when this fades, one or more figures will manifest in the Egg's place. This being (or group of beings, in one case) will be obedient to the thrower of the Egg, and will serve him or fight for him as desired for 1 turn. Roll 1d6 to determine what is summoned:

  1. A wild-haired, dark-skinned female warrior, with furious eyes. Unless verbally restrained, she will immediately attack the nearest target, be it friend or foe. Although able to understand common speech, she can only communicate in grunts and snarls. She is a level 5 Fighter, armed with a Normal Sword +1 and a dagger, and dressed in Leather Armour +1.

  2. A small, fine-boned Elf maid with long blonde hair, tied up into twin ponytails on the sides of her head. She speaks the Common tongue in a childlike voice, and has a sweet smile. A level 3 Elf, she carries a small, purple-headed Mace +1 as her only weapon, and wears no armour; her spells are Magic Missile, Sleep, and Web.

  3. A fit, black-haired woman with her hair tied back in a severe ponytail. She possesses incredible Dexterity (18) and a lovely singing voice, although she speaks the Common tongue with a strange accent. A level 5 Bard (the Robrenn Thief-variant), she is armed with a Short Sword +1 and wears magical cloth armour which protects as if it were Chain Mail +1.

  4. A tall, willowy woman with straight brown hair, dressed in a simple, yet expensive, shift dress. She rarely speaks, and never smiles. A level 4 Mage, she carries a Dagger +1 and a Wand of Paralysis. Her spells are Sleep, Shield, Invisibility, and Phantasmal Force.
  5. A buxom, statuesque woman with bright red hair, dressed in bright, garish robes. She speaks the Common tongue inexpertly, occasionally speaking gibberish words. A level 3 Cleric, she is armed with a War Hammer +1 and a Shield +1. Her spells are Protection from Evil and Remove Fear.

  6. All five females appear at once; When together, each one is treated as if one level higher than normal, and they are accompanied by ethereal music which is catchy, if somewhat banal. Note that these "spice girls," if summoned together, last for only half a turn - no more than five minutes - before fading away.

When the product of the Spice Egg vanishes - either when slain, or when the duration expires - the Egg is magically reformed, and may be reused. The Spice Egg may only be called upon once per day.
