.:1997:. -My Take on Hanson History- |
![]() |
1997 - was probably Hanson's biggest year to date. It would change their lives as well as fans all over the world. I miss 1997. Don't get me wrong I love the '2000 Hanson.' But I miss some things, like Zac acting zany all the time, the long hair, hearing Hanson actually being played on the radio, Hanson was EVERYWHERE, and when you requested Hanson the DJ's didn't laugh and then hang up on you. Plus, it was cool to like Hanson, everyone liked Hanson. I remember the very first time I heard/saw Hanson. It was in May of 1997 on VH1, and the person who introduced 'Mmmbop' said it was going to be the "song of the summer." Boy, was he right!! So, I watched the video and remember commenting on their hair. I guess I liked the song, but can't really remember because I went on with my little life. Then I got some money for my birthday and went to the mall. I was in Camelot and couldn't find anything that I really wanted to buy. There were a bunch of girls making a big deal around the "Middle of Nowhere" display. So, I went over and bought "Middle of Nowhere." I'm not even sure why but, it was certainly a good purchase! Little did I know, it would change my life. Before Hanson I wasn't really into music...there wasn't anything out that I really liked. But, after the first time I listened to "Middle of Nowhere" I knew I had found something. I turned all my friends onto Hanson, and they called themselves "Big Fans" then, but they aren't anymore. (Boy, they don't know what they are missing out on do they?!) Anyways, Hanson was everywhere. Everywhere you turned Hanson was either being mentioned, making a magazine cover or their song was being played...over and over again on the radio! I loved it! (At that I time I admit I was a total teenybopper!) Hanson was definatly making major history and was even being compared to the Beatles! At their promos the crowds were getting way to large to even control, even putting Hanson in danger! They were even nominatted for 3 Grammy awards including Best Album and performed at the Grammy's. Made their own fan club called MOE (Middle of Everywhere...boy is that the truth!) and even had an offical book written! Hurricane Hanson was underway. Although many critics called Hanson a one hit wonder Hanson showed them wrong. With 4 videos and chart topping singles just from "Middle of Nowhere." ("Mmmbop", "Where's the Love?", "Weird", and "I Will Come To You") At probably the height of 1997 Hanson put out a Christmas Album called "Snowed In" and even had their own TV Special on ABC called "Meet Hanson" where they played a few songs from "Snowed In." The album even featured 3 orginal Christmas songs written by Hanson. I love the album so much I am known to listen to it in June!! Hanson would soon after release "Tulsa, Tokyo and the Middle of Nowhere." A home video about them and their travels. Most was even shot by them! Both the album and video were huge sellers since they released them during the hoildays! But what would happen next....... |
