It is not simply a matter of more stuff, but more choices, more freedom for the individual. Free markets and free elections are not enough, as some theorists believe. A system must also have a respect for the rule of law and a legal system that insures that all people are treated fairly by the system. That is the system we are blessed with, and the one that provides the most material goods, as well as the most personal freedom, including the freedom to reject materialism. I believe that is what the future offers us, but we must step up and begin to create that future. ? Jack Latona |
