Up until about 2 years ago I haven’t thought much about ballroom dancing.
After a long haul out of the dance scene, I decided that I wanted to start again and this time to try something totally different.
And so in September 2000, I began taking lessons in Latin dances, which include the Rumba, Cha Cha, Samba, Paso, and Jive. I was hooked right away, partly because of the music which is exhilirating. But mainly, I was drawn to it because of the freedom and the whole new range of movement that were a big change from what I was used to in ballet.

Last Winter, I felt I needed more change so I started Jazz ballet and to get back in good shape, I also starting classical ballet again, 7 years after hanging off my pointe shoes. I first went to the Conservatoire de danse, then changed to Ballet Divertimento.
It’s strange but I think I actually am better technically, and feel better now than I was a decade ago. I think some things like understanding techniques, body awareness and emotional maturity need time to develop and time off is often the best way to put the fire back into a waning passion.
