The Vampire, Cryme + Vampire Cathedral

Vampire Cathedral
Even a big, bad vamp like me sometimes kneels down to pray.
Okay, so take that more figuratively than literally.

The mystery of ruins, as painted by Casper David Friedrich circa 1810, give or take a few, makes the statement of the past still remaining with us. It might not be pretty, it might be "in ruins", but hey, it's the past and has been reinterpretted, reviewed, though not always renewed, by each and everyone of us.

Egypt's might is tumbled down
Down a-down the deeps of thought;
Greece is fallen and Troy town,
Glorious Rome hath lost her crown,
Venice's pride is nought.

But the dreams their children dreamed
Fleeting, unsubstantial, vain
Shadowy as the shadows seemed
Airy nothing, as they deemed,
These remain.

Egypt's Might is Tumbled Down
by Mary Coleridge (1908)
