cg UPDATES:
April 25th, 2001: Whoops! We're back after a couple of weeks. There really hasn't been much happening during this time - SN is still in production in Canada. There's a new news article, however, outlining Kevin's involvement in the SAG vs. ATA issue, that might lead to a strike later this summer.

ks UPDATES:
kevinspacy.com On May 11th National Arbitration Forum decided in Kevin's favour a dispute against John Zuccarini (apparently yet another infamous "cybersquatter"). Zuccarini, of Andalusia, Penn., was the owner of kevinspacy.com domain name, as well as other misspellt celebrity domain names, including britineyspears.com etc. I assume the website will now be taken down while KS and his people wait for the verdict on the kevinspacey.com dispute.
k-pax Kevin has finished shooting a Universal film called K-Pax (directed by Iain Softley, co-starring are Jeff Bridges, Alfre Woodard and Mary McCormack). The film is adapted from a novel by Gene Brewer, and its' scheduled release date is in October this year.
A synopsis: A mysterious patient named 'Prot' (KS) is admitted to a mental hospital who claims that he has traveled across time and space from a place he calls K-Pax, a planet whose inhabitants possess remarkable abilities. Determined to prove that Prot is nothing more than a tragic victim of multiple personality disorder, psychiatrist Gene Brewer (Jeff Bridges) soon finds himself doubting his own diagnosis. As the supposed alien interacts with the other troubled residents of the hospital, they undergo wondrous transformations and, one by one, shake off lives encumbered by mental disorders and become happy functioning people.
Check out this site for a photo still and other information: http://www.corona.bc.ca/films/details/kpax.htmlvarious The 73rd Academy Awards were held on March 25th, 2001. Kevin was there to present the Best Actress, which Julia Roberts won. He looked very good, and thanked Dame Judi Dench for bringing his tux to Los Angeles: apparently he forgot it in Halifax! He called her "without a doubt the best delivery service [he's] ever had". After the awards ceremony KS was seen at Vanity Fair's and InStyle's party.
On February 26th Kevin attended the memorial service for actor Jason Robards, who died of cancer in December 2000. The service was held at the Broadhurst Theater. Kevin was quoted saying, "He was the last of a breed of actors who dedicated themselves to a life in the theater. Without asking for the role, he was our elder statesman."
Something of interest to us all Thomas Newman fans; American Beauty has won Best Soundtrack at the 2001 Brit Awards, and also Best Score Soundtrack Album For A Motion Picture at the 2001 Grammy Awards.
Kevin has narrated an IMAX documentary called Shackleton's Antarctic Adventure. From what I can tell, it's about the explorer Ernest Shackleton's 1914-1916 expedition to cross the 2000 mile Antarctic continent. Check the official website for showing times and venues.
Kevin made a surprise speech at SAG's national membership meeting on 1/14/2001. In the speech he made a strong appeal to fellow members to work only under SAG contracts and not to accept work overseas. Kevin was the first celebrity to donate $100,000 in September 2000 to SAG's strike relief fund during last year's six-month strike against advertisers. Other celebrities to match his donation were Nicolas Cage, Harrison Ford, Helen Hunt, Eddie Murphy and Bruce Willis.
According to Film Unlimited, Kevin and Russell Crowe are both interested in a role in Disney's new comedy drama, 'Honest Abe'. The rumour has it that the flick will be much in style of Capra's Mr Smith Goes To Washington, and story revolves around a "nice guy" whose principles and beliefs are questioned when he is elected to run for state Governor.
In November 2000, a production of Lee Blessing's COBB re-opened at the Lucille Lortel Theater. The drama first opened at the Melting Pot Theater in spring 2000. At first it looked like the production would be shut down after its short run, until KS saw it - and loved it. He put up enough money to allow the revival to continue running for another two weeks. Partly procuded by Trigger Street Productions, the play got another chance in November with an open-ended run.
And, of course, let us not forget the Bobby Darin biopic, that Kevin still seems to be interested in doing. Watch this space for more details...
