You will establish an ‘Index’ page for your own CFADW course website and add information to it.
A: You will setup your own CFADW email account with a
‘signature’ and an ‘automated response’;
B: You will send an email from your own CFADW email account to your own CFADW account to confirm that you have correctly completed the steps in Part 1 and Part 2A and 2B.
C: You will forward and ‘Cc’email
from Part 2B stating that you have completed Part 1 and Part 2A and 2B.
You will establish an 'Index’ page (also known as a
‘Home’ page) for your own CFADW website according to the following
instructions:
(1) Access your own CFADW website at: http://ca.oocities.com
(2) Sign into your CFADW website.
(3) Under the heading 'Build Web Pages', click on: 'Yahoo PageWizards'.
A new page will appear with a number of web page templates.
(4) Click: 'Personal Page'
A new page will appear showing a number of web page templates.
(5) Click: 'Launch Yahoo! PageWizard'
Another, smaller, web browser window will appear.
(6) Click: 'Begin'
A new page will appear in the small web browser
window: 'Choose a look for your page'.
(7) Select a colour.
(8) Click: 'Next'
A new page will appear in the small web browser
window: '(1) Enter your info'.
(9) Enter your first name then your last name.
(10) Enter your CFADW email address.
(11) Click: 'Next'.
A new page will appear in the small web browser window: '(2) Pick
your picture'.
(12) Click: 'Next'
A new page will appear in the small web browser
window: '(3) Describe yourself'.
(13) In the 'About Me' textbox, without the quotes, enter:
‘I am a student in the Winter
2004 Concepts For A Digital World, (CFADW), course at
(Replace the ‘…’ with the name of the Program you are
enrolled in at the College and the program code. i.e. Graphic
Design G102 )
(14) In the ‘Hobbies and Interests’ textbox, without the quotes,
enter:
‘I am taking the CFADW course ...’
Replace the ‘...’ with a paragraph about why you are taking the CFADW course and what you would like to learn. One sentence is not an acceptable paragraph. Think about the question and answer it fully.
Follow the first paragraph with a second one (press enter/return twice at the end of the last sentence you entered) in which you state why you are interested generally in information technology and the specific information

Follow the second paragraph with a third one (press enter/return twice at the end of the last sentence you entered) in which you state and describe your present knowledge and experience with information technology. (15) Click: 'Next'
A new page will appear in the small web browser
window: '(4) Enter your favourite links'.
(16) In the textbox for the #1 link Name, enter: 'Concepts For A Digital World';
(17) In the textbox for Web Address #1, enter: 'ca.oocities.com/crn43003';
(18) Click: 'Next'
A new page will appear in the small web browser window: '(5) Describe your
friends and family'.
(19) Click: 'Next'
A new page will appear in the small web browser
window: '(6) Enter your friends and family links'.
(20) Click: 'Next'
A new page will appear in the small web browser
window: 'Name your page.'
(21) In the textbox for Page name, replace the page name given; enter: 'index';
(22) Click: 'Next'
A new page will appear in the small web browser window: 'Congratulations'.
(23) Click: ‘Done’
A new page will appear.
(24) Click on your webpage’s URL.
Your newly created Home Page will/should appear.
(25) Click on the URL link to the CFADW course website and determine if it
works.
(26) If everything looks and works as required, proceed to Part 2. If something doesn’t look or work
as required, start over from the very beginning and redo your work according to
the instructions. If you are still
not successful, Yahoo/Geocities may have altered the method of creating an index.html
page which will require you to determine what has changed to complete this part
of the assignment.
(27) Logout of your email and website. If you don't logout, your email and website will be open for others to use.
Make sure that your own CFADW website can be accessed
through using a web browser and your own cfadw_yourstudentnumber
Yahoo!GeoCities URL.
The URL will be in the following format:
http://ca.oocities.com/cfadw_yourstudentnumber
If the URL is correct and the website has been established and is working
properly, your newly created Index/Home Page will appear on the screen.
If it doesn't work, determine why, fix it (you may have to redo part 1), then
continue.

(2) Sign into your Yahoo!GeoCities website.
(3) Scroll down to the bottom of the page where there is a box filled with
underlined words and click on: 'mail'.

(6) In the textbox,
without the quotes, enter an identifying signature as follows:

(7) Click on the checkbox:
‘Add signature to all outgoing messages’.
(8) Click:

The ‘Vacation
Response’ page should appear.
(10) Change the
‘Start Date’ to:

(12) In the
‘Generic Response’ textbox, without quotes, enter the following:

(Substitute your own
information where appropriate.)
(13) Click the
checkbox: ‘Send a sample copy of this message to my inbox’
(14) At the top of
the ‘Vacation Response’ page, under where it states ‘Vacation
Response’, make sure that it indicates that your ‘Vacation
Response’ is turned on.
(15) Click:
‘Save Changes’
The ‘Mail
Options’ page should appear and should state: ‘Your changes have
been saved’
(16) Click:
‘Check Mail’
Your ‘Yahoo!
Mail’ ‘Inbox’ page should appear and it should contain a new
message with the subject line: ‘Yahoo! Auto Response’.
(17) Open the
‘Yahoo! Auto Response’ email message.
That message should
contain the text you entered for your ‘Vacation Response’.
If that information
does not appear, determine what is wrong and fix it before continuing.
(18) Logout of your email and website. If you don't logout, your email and website will be open for others to use.
You will send a test email from your own
CFADW course Yahoo!GeoCities
email account, to that same account, according to the following
instructions. This will confirm, to
yourself, that you are are correctly completing the
assignment’s instructions.
After you have successfully completed this part of the assignment, you
will use the resulting email from B in C.
(1) Access your own CFADW website at: http://ca.oocities.com
(2) Sign into your Yahoo!GeoCities website.
(3) Scroll down to the bottom of the page where there is a box filled with
underlined words and click on: 'mail'.
(4) At the left of your email account web page, click on: 'Compose'.
(5) Enter the recipient's email address (your own) in To:
cfadw_yourstudentnumber@yahoo.ca
(Replace cfadw_yourstudentnumber with your actual Yahoo!GeoCities ID, i.e.

(9) Press the ‘Enter’

(11) In the Yahoo email composer page, click on: 'Send'.
A confirmation page should appear.
(12) Find the line that states: View messages in your Inbox and click on:
'Inbox'
You should have 2 messages from your own email
account, the To: message and the Cc: message.
If the Internet is slow, you may have to wait a while for the messages to be
received.
(13) Open one of those messages and determine if the URL you typed into your
message works as a hyperlink to your own CFADW website.
(It should work).
(14) If there is a problem, try and figure out what went wrong and retry. (It
may just be a typographical error.) If all is well, Sign Out.
(15) Logout of
your email and website. If you don't logout, your email and website will be
open for others to use.
You will forward an email from your own cfadw_yourstudentnumber Yahoo!GeoCities email account to the CFADW course Yahoo!GeoCities email account according to the following
instructions:
(1) Access your own CFADW website at: http://ca.oocities.com
(2) Sign into your Yahoo!GeoCities website.
(3) Scroll down to the bottom of the page where there is a box filled with
underlined words and click on: 'mail'.
(4) At the left of your email account web page, click on: 'Inbox'
The email ‘Inbox’ page should appear.
Under ‘Subject’ you should see the message:
‘cfadw_yourstudentnumber website index page
completed’

should be your actual Yahoo!GeoCities ID, i.e.

(5) Click: ‘cfadw_yourstudentnumber

(6) Find the selection box where it states ‘as
attachment’ and select: ‘inline text’
(7) Click: ‘Forward’
The ‘Forward’ page should appear.
(8) Enter the CFADW course email address in To: crn43003@yahoo.ca
(9) Enter your CFADW email address in Cc:
cfadw_yourstudentnumber@yahoo.ca

(10) In the textbox where the message you are forwarding is displayed, on the
first line, without quotes, type:

(11) Press the ‘Enter’
or ‘Return’ key on your keyboard.
(12) At the bottom of the page, where ‘Options’ is indicated, make
sure that ‘Save a copy in your Sent Items folder’ is selected as
indicated by a checkmark in the checkbox.
(13) Click: 'Send'
The ‘Message Forwarded’ page should
appear.
(14) Find the line that states: 'View messages in your Inbox' and click:
'Inbox'
You should have 2 messages: (1) the Cc'd
message; (2) an automated response message, from the course email address.
(If the Internet is slow, you may have to wait a while for the messages to be
received.)
(15) Open the Cc'd message and determine if the URL you typed into your
message works as a hyperlink to your CFADW website.
(It should
work).
(16) Open the automated response message from crn43003@yahoo.ca and read the
message.
(17) If there is a problem, try and figure out what went wrong and retry. If
all is well, Sign Out
(18) Logout of your email and website. If you don't logout, your email and
