CFADW COMMENTS ASSIGNMENT

Carefully read and complete the following information and instructions.

This assignment assumes that you have completed the previous website and email assignments through which you established a website, index.html page, and an email account.

This assignment must be completed by Midnight, Friday, April 16, 2004.
Start doing this assignment well before the deadline for submission.
Lateness or non-submission will result in a grade of zero for this assignment.

Although the instructions are for Microsoft Windows and Notepad, this assignment can be done with any operating system and a text editor.

This assignment is comprised of 2 parts.
This assignment is a 10% bonus applied to your final mark.
You must complete all parts of this assignment.

Part 1:
Write at least two pages of text (800 words or more) about what you have learned and what was of particular interest to you in the CFADW course.

Part 2:
Send an email from your own CFADW course email account to the CFADW course email account (crn43003@yahoo.ca) with the content of your cfadwcomments.txt file included in the body of your email (Not as an attachment).


Part 1:

Although the instructions specify Notepad as the text editor, you may use a different text editor such as WordPad, etc.

(1) Put a formatted floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.

(2) To start up the Notepad text editor in Windows:

Click on the the 'Start' menu
Click on: 'Run'
In the 'Open' textbox type: notepad
Click on: 'OK'.

The Notepad text editor window should appear.

(3) At the top left of the Notepad window:

Click on: 'File'
Click on: 'Save As'
Give your file the following name: cfadwcomments.txt
'Save' it to your floppy disk.

(4) In the Notepad text editor, at the top of the page, on separate lines, type your FULL NAME, STUDENT NUMBER, and the title: CFADW COMMENTS.
Below this, write at least two pages of text (800 words or more) about what you have learned in the CFADW course.
Some areas to cover are what you have learned about information technology, its history, uses, and impact on you and society.
In your comments, include what was of particular interest to you and why.
Keep the comments positive and constuctive.

Save your work often to prevent losing it due to a crash, etc.

Make sure that your writing is well organized, coherent, grammatically correct, and typographical and spelling errors are corrected.

(5) When you have finished your comments, make sure you have saved the file to the floppy disk.

(6) You are going to use your cfadwcomments.txt file in Part 2.


Part 2:

Send an email from your own CFADW course email account to the CFADW course email account (crn43003@yahoo.ca) with the content of your cfadwcomments.txt file included in the body of your email (Not as an attachment).


(1) Access http://ca.oocities.com

(2) Sign into your own CFADW Yahoo website.

(3) Scroll down to the bottom of the page where there is a box filled with underlined words and click on: 'mail'.

(4) At the left of your email account web page, click on: 'Compose'.

(5) Enter the recipient's email address in To: crn43003@yahoo.ca

(6) Enter the email Subject: First name, Last name, CFADW Comments completed

(Replace First name, Last name with your own name.)

(7) Enter your correct CFADW email address in Cc:
For example: cfadw_yourstudentnumber@yahoo.ca

(Replace cfadw_yourstudentnumber with your actual CFADW Yahoo! Geocities ID, i.e. cfadw_101234567)

(8) Below the Cc: textbox, click on the checkbox for: 'Save copy to Sent folder' so that the checkbox has a checkmark in it.

(9) Copy all the text you wrote in the text editor.

(10) Paste the text you copied into the body of your email message.

(11) In the Yahoo email composer page, click on: 'Send'.

You should receive the Cc: copy of your email (eventually).

(12) When you receive a copy of your email, check it to determine if everything is correct. If there is something wrong, correct it and resend the email as required.

(13) Logout/sign out of your email and website. If you don't logout, your email and website will be open for others to use.
