At Crumlin Primary school we believe that the educational trips during the year are very
beneficial to the children. Indeed all the children seem to have enjoyed their day trips
so far! Here are a pictures of some of the places our classes visit throughout the year.
Later in the year they also get the chance to visit a farm where they learn about farm
animals and how they are cared for by the farmer. The children enjoy a guided tour of
a farm and maybe get to feed the baby goats at feeding time.
The children in primary 3 and their teachers went to Carnfunnock Park. Here they
learn about various mapping skills and follow a treasure trail around the park. Of
course the children don't get off with doing no work! They complete a
worksheet before and after the visit relating to their trip.
to see what life used to be like in schools many years ago. They dress for the occasion
and even get the opportunity to write on slates and perhaps get caned !! They experience
the games which children would have played in the 1950's and read the very books which
they would have read. This trip is thoroughly enjoyable and very educational for the pupils.
The children in primary 5 take a stroll to the local bird garden in Crumlin. In school the primary
fives have been learning about birds. At the Talnotry Avian Charitable Trust there are different
varieties of birds which the children would not normally come into contact with.
The pupils of primary 6 go to the Dunluce Centre in Portrush where they receive
a 'hands on' feel for History and Science. Children experience a moving visual
display relating to the history of the North Antrim Coast. They are also given the
opportunity to study the wildlife of the area.
The Share Holiday Village opened in 1981 and our school have been visiting it for the last 3 years. The
children get the opportunity to experience activities which they may never have had the chance to do so
previously. Activities include canoeing, kayaking, banana boating, sailing, go-karting, archery,
orienteering and many more. Evening activities are also planned for the children at night, including
swimming, quizes, an evening walk and the highlight of the holiday is a disco which normally takes
place on the last night.
The children and the teachers also go to the Marble Arch caves and get a guided tour in small groups.
The teachers also bring the children into Enniskillen to do some shopping so that they can bring home
a present for their parents (if they do not spend all their money in the tuck shop at SHARE beforehand)

School Trips

In February the children in primary 1 visit the fire station in Crumlin
to find out how fire fighters help them. They learn about 'People
who help us' for their Geography topic. At the fire station children
are given a guided tour and learn about safety in the home. The
highlight of the visit is the opportunity to sit in the fire engine and
squirt water from a hose. The teachers better stand back !!
