Mission Opportunities

There are many opportunities to support and participate in the Christian Reformed Church's mission work in the Dominican Republic. Here is a list of ways you can be involved.

Pray...

"The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective."(James 5:16)

Some missionaries post their current prayer requests on the main page from time to time, but we ask for continued prayer for the following:

The growth and maturity of the evangelical church and leadership in general in the Dominican Republic, and specifically for the Christian Reformed Church.

Relief from the poverty, prejudice, and exploitation suffered by the poor and the Haitian community in the D.R.

Freedom from the spiritual oppresion the so many Dominicans and Haitians live under, due to their following of spiritism and voodoo.

Our mission team which needs the Lord's continual closeness, protection and guidance.

Support...

"Each one should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."(2 Corinthians 9:7)

This mission effort is supported completely by gifts, offerings, and donations from individuals, churches and foundations. And the Lord has always provided abundantly for the ministry. But there is always so much to do, and not always all the resources to do it. So if the Lord so leads you, you can either individually or through your church provide financial support for the ministry. Do so by contacting us so that we can inform you about specific needs and projects. Here is CRWM's Project Giving Guide.

Participate...

"Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue, but with actions and truth."(1 John 3:18)

There are many opportunites to participate in this mission work, in "action and truth." We are open to receive volunteers to come and serve in certain areas of ministry and service. One of important areas of development of the church has been in providing buildings for their ministry.

Every year we work along with emerging congregations to help them build new church buildings. Also we help pastors build their own homes, as well as building school buildings and ministry center facilities. How can you help? Well, almost all of the mission contribution comes through donations and labor of volunteers who come down in groups for this purpose. If you are interested in particpating in a mission work team, let us know and we will furnish more details.

Other kinds of volunteer opportunities include medical mission work, teaching English, leading daily vacation Bible school, small business administration, and so on.

Family needs...

..."for they refreshed my spirit and yours also..."(1 Cor. 16:18)

Missionaries sometimes need encouragement, too. Many people have sent cards and gift to us over the years and assured us of their prayers. That is always a blessing. We have sometimes been asked what kind of things we may need which can be sent. Well, here is a list of things that we can't get or are very expensive here in the D.R. that we and/or our children appreciate and enjoy:

Christian books - for children and teens, devotional books, good reading;

Computer software: Christian study, games, eductional

Music: classical and Christian contemporary music on cassettes or CD's

Videos, entertainment, Christian topics for children and adults.

E-mail us directly for more info.

One last note: our mail comes via a courier which charges us $1.50 a pound. If you are sending something fairly heavy, we would appreciate help in covering that cost, since otherwise we shell out of our pockets! Thanks for your consideration.
