Harry Potter - Title: The Inconveniences of Being a Malfoy (3)
Title: The Inconveniences of Being a Malfoy
Summary: First year at Hogwarts, Scorpius isn't getting along well, but he'll be damned if he's going to be happy that Albus Severus Potter is suddenly trying to help.
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter.

Scorpius really wanted to know what kind of horrible things he had done in a past life to receive such a heavy karmic retaliation.
It seemed that everyone was expecting him to take advantage of poor, dear little Albus. Oh, please, Scorpius scoffed. What in the world would he want from Albus? Other than for him to just leave him alone but apparently, that wasnt happening anytime soon.
Eef ou do urt my cou-zin, Victoire Weasley insisted as he stood in the hallway, people gathering around her backside to either drool at it or support her, I weel ave to take ak-shown, and waved a small, fragile looking fist at him. He leveled a disbelieving stare at her, and watched haughtily as the girl shrunk slightly, but noticeably at his withering look.
Okay, Scorpius said, irritably. Now, I need to get to Potions, do you mind? Hed left her and her friends and admirers behind with a scowl.
He was stopped again on his way to Potions by Phoebe Weasley. The only reason he knew her name was because of her Head Girl badge that blazed her name brightly, as if it had been shined almost obsessively. Scorpius wouldnt put it past her.
You, Phoebe Weasley sniffed at him, are hardly worthy of my cousins attentions, and blah blah blah, something about being Head Girl... you are warned
He was late to Potions (that girl had probably done it on purpose too, he thought bitterly). Professor Warway took off five points from his house for being late, and his housemates glared at him intensely, making the hairs on back of his neck prickle during the whole class. Stupid Weasleys and stupid Potter- Albus- whatever- for being related to all the stupid overprotective redheads in the school.
Albus gestured fervently at him to join him at his table when he walked in, but Scorpius ignored him and sat with a Nott. He pretended that the hurt look on the boys face didnt affect him at all and after class ended, Scorpius was the first out of the door to avoid having to talk to Albus.
There was a nice lull in confrontations from Weasley family members until James Potter sat next to him the next day while he was studying in the Great Hall alone.
Hello, the older Potter said.
What? Scorpius responded, taking care to give off the best air of indifference he could summon, trying to silently clue him in that he was not welcoming company.
The other boy didn't bother to waste any time with pleasantries. If you dare to hurt Al, I'll burn you alive, cut off your bollocks, choke you with them, and then let the rest of your family at you, James Potter said seriously.
Holy shit, Scorpius thought as he lost his composure, jaw dropping, unable to formulate any words.
James Potter patted his shoulder, almost in a brotherly fashion. Just so you know, he said cheerfully and stood up, walking over to a girl Scorpius didnt recognize who was watching them, arms crossed and rolling her eyes at them. Scorpius wondered if the insanity came from the Potter side or the Weasley side. He was willing to bet on the Potter side.
Scorpius glared at his textbook stonily as if it would give him the peace, or at least the answers, that he wanted.
He jerked in surprise when someone touched him lightly on the shoulder and said, Malfoy. Scorpius whirled around and snarled at...
Oh, it was the Weasley girl again.
Its you, he said, flatly, turned back around to look at his textbook and muttered, Go away.
I want to talk to you, she told him firmly as she sat down next to him.
He edged away from her suspiciously and said, Well, thats too bad, isnt it, because you are precisely one of the people I absolutely dont want to talk to.
She ignored him. Scorpius unhappily admitted to himself he knew she would. Stupid... Ravenclaws, he thought, just to have some variation from his stupid Gryffindors theme. Whats wrong with you? she demanded, Albus told me about what you did in Potions. You really hurt him! Her eyes were accusing.
Like you care what I do, Scorpius snapped at her, as long as your precious Albus doesnt get infected by my horrible Slytherin germs, am I right? Or maybe, he sneered, you cant bear the thought of him or you, by default, interacting with a Malfoy, you obviously think youre better than me, dont you, Weasley?
Thats not what I think at all! she cried, Ill admit, at first I was hesitant to talk to you but that's not-
Oh, you admit it then, Scorpius hissed at her, Well, your familys come up far, havent they, Weasley, and now you stand up all high and mighty at the top of your pedestal, looking down at all of us unworthy peons-
Youre putting words in my mouth- Rose tried to interject, but Scorpius cut her off.
Words that you wouldnt dare to say, he said venomously, even if you're thinking them because youre still trying to play the part of good, sweet little girl but soon youll just be like all the rest of them, acting like a good beating will just send the Malfoy blood in me off and running and pretending that the reason you're doing it isnt just because you feel like it-
Youre right! Rose shrieked at him, I dont know you at all, but you dont know me either, so where do you get off judging me? Im sorry that nobody bothered to care about you before, but why should they? When someone as sweet as Albus realizes your pain, you just push them away!
Why shouldnt I be suspicious? Scorpius shouted back at her, Its not like he cared before!
He did! she shrilled at him.
Well, he just shows it brilliantly doesn't he? he snapped, before his mind really processed her words. "Wait, what?" he demanded.
Rose took a deep breath to soothe herself, and when she spoke again, her voice was noticeably calmer. He did, she said firmly, but he wasnt sure how to approach you, he always thought that it wasnt fair that you were on your own all the time, he wanted to talk to you-
And it took him, what, nearly the entire year to speak to measly little me, did it, Scorpius said nastily.
-oh, shut up, Malfoy, Rose snapped at him, Its not like you make yourself very approachable, he was nervous! And then whenever he managed to psych himself out enough to talk to you, you always managed to be mysteriously absent.
Scorpius was silent. Well, he mused, it would explain the strange looks that the boy would give him from time to time. Hed just assumed it meant that he was going to get beat on later again. Scorpius didnt really like to stick around to find out what it meant when a Gryffindor expressed interest in him.
When he found out that they were hitting you, Rose said quietly, he was so angry. He said that it was disgusting that a Gryffindor would sink so low that it was a horrible reflection upon the rest of his house.
Did he? Scorpius mused. He looked at her, raising an eyebrow. What did you think?
I agreed with him, she told him sincerely, and looked straight at him so he could look into her eyes. Scorpius never understood that custom. He always wondered what he should be trying to see. It was just as easy lying to someone looking at their eyes as away from them.
Whatever, he muttered.
Rose sighed with relief.
Dont think this means I like either of you, though, Scorpius warned her quickly.
She rolled her eyes. You know, Malfoy, Rose commented, You are far too pigheaded for your own good.
He sniffed at her dismissively and went back to his Charms textbook, relieved to find that Rose didn't seem to have anything more to say to him.
Rose, Scorpius, a familiarly annoying voice almost chirped at them, I found the kitchens by accident, and look at this! The house-elves are brilliant, they make the best cake oh, I brought some for you too! I nibbled on it a bit on the way here, I hope you dont mind
You pig, Scorpius said, idly, still reading a paragraph about the uses of the levitating charm and then realized there was hardly an appropriate amount of fire in his words. Youre disgusting, he added on, emphasizing the disgusting part and threw in an exaggerated grimace for good measure, and immediately felt better.
Rose rolled her eyes at him again.
Albus plopped down in the seat next to him and set two slices of cake in front of the two. Ooh, he said interestedly when he saw what Scorpius was reading, is that the charm we learned yesterday? I havent quite got the hang of that yet, do you mind?
Scorpius sighed heavily, glancing at Rose, who was nodding at him so vigorously he thought she might break her neck. Alright, he said, resigned, See, now As he explained, Rose leaned towards him slightly to hear as well, and he thought that this might not be so bad.
Except Lucius might have a coronary when he found out. He sighed inwardly, though he continued to explain. Brilliant, he was going to die before reaching puberty.
He was so going to haunt Albus.
