Black Crystal Vein

Sung to The Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key

Oh! say can you see,
By the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed
At the twilight's last gleaming?

Whose broad shapes and bright colors,
Through the perilous flight,
O'er the claims that we watch, were
so gallantly hiding?

And the sleds orange glare,
thunder blasting in the air,
Gave proof through the night that
our jobs were still there.

Oh! say does that black crystal
vein yet hide
O'er the ranges of the free and the
home of the insane?
