Introduction
What is a System?
- A system is defined as a collection of activities
and elements organized to accomplish a goal.
- Most people in an organization are involved with an
information system of some kind.
Why Systems Analysis and Design is Important?
- Organizations can make mistakes when planning and
implementing new systems
- They may not include training for the workers in the new
system.
- The new system may not have been thoroughly tested before
being used.
- Examples:
- General Motors spent 40 billions dollars on a
high-tech robotics systems failed due to lack of training.
- IRS computer system at one year was not able to
process tax returns as quickly as it was hoped because not all
testing was done.
- Creating a system that is truly useful requires
considerable thought and effort.
- There is a six-step problem-solving process known as
Systems analysis and design to help create systems.
Competent end users need to be aware of the:
- relationship of an organization's chart to its managerial
structure.
- six phases of the systems development life cycle.
